I thought it appropriate to mention the death of the Duke of Ediniburgh which was announced today shortly after 12 noon.
Whether royalist or not, I think it's fair to say he led an interesting life. My heart does go out to the Queen, who has known him most of her life and been married to him for 73 years. Those I've known who have lost their life partners in less of a public way have been utterly bereft; no one knows you the way they did.

I was saddened when I saw this on the news here this morning. He certainly lived a full and interesting life, in what had to have been at times difficult situations. I think history will view him kindly.

The announcement was the first thing I saw when I opened my computer this morning. Sad he didn't make the 100 though. As expected of him, it is to be a 'no showy' funeral. In spite of that in Canberra (our State Capital) there will be a 41 gun salute in front of Parliament buildings.
I am sure that the Queen will miss Prince Philip greatly, he was her rock and could always be relied on I am sure.
Rest easy Your Highness Prince Philip and our love and loyalty to HM the Queen.

Re: Death of the Duke of Edinburgh
We heard the news while driving back from Devon (MIL) and listened to many of the early tributes. He was a remarkable man, and I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to lose someone after more than seven decades together - my thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty the Queen. I don't know if she is ever able to feel "not the Queen", but right now surely she is a widow in deep mourning.
