Sheila's Projects - James
The chart for this is a mess - the colours don't match the key so it is a bit of a guessing game. It's intended for my three great grandsons' bedroom.

Re: Sheila's Projects - James
Wonderful. So sad when the chart does not proper explain the picture. Hope it is not to much of a task.

Re: Sheila's Projects - James
I'm not the happiest I've ever been. Last night I carried on with this project and just plain could not get it right - there are a lot of important fractionals and I wasn't happy with the way it was looking. The top did not look like a tank engine should look. Little boys know when it isn't right!!
This afternoon I ordered some evenweave and will start completely over when that arrives. I feel happy to try using evenweave now, thanks to Mabel.
The kicker is that I'd done a good half of it before I binned it. It is actually outside in the rubbish. I refuse to keep working on something that I'm not happy with. And there is no point at all in putting it in a 'to do later' pile when I know I will not pick it up again. But I do want to complete the picture for my granddaughter. She is expecting her third son any day and it is for the boys' bedroom.

Good on you for wanting it to be perfect for them. If it wasn't right you would never feel happy with it, so look at James mark one as a practice and once the evenweave arrives you can get down to the 'real thing'.

Better to start over than be unhappy with it. But I'm really sorry you wasted so much effort! You must have felt so disheartened!
Might it be worth getting a different kit of James, from a better designer, rather than using something which is so wrong?

Re: Sheila's Projects - James
Oh how incredibly annoying to have to bin it when you've worked hard at it! As T'bear said, look at this one as a practice, I'm sure when you do it on evenweave it'll turn out perfect and your great-grandsons will know they've got the best great-grandma ever.
Re: Sheila's Projects - James
At last I've got a new chart for James, thanks to a lovely lady at DMC. Although this is a discontinued kit, she found a copy of the chart for me after a few weeks of correspondence.
This happy occurrence is thanks to Fljotsdale for suggesting that I get a new chart and to those who have suggested before that people ask the makers for extra thread etc. It would never have occurred to me before to ask a big company for help.
James is now in the to do pile as I'm still working on David, Christmas cards, Care Bear and a commission for a friend.
