Perfect daffodil. OK I am up for the challenge so need to know what type of thing you were thinking of, size, full daff or just head etc.

I've used 14, 16 and 18ct Aida without too many problems.
I also tried evenweave some time ago, but got really frustrated with it, and eventually traded it (with other members of this forum) for some more Aida

I've not tried linen or any others... yet

I've only done 123. I just looked at my stitching and it is 123. I guess I'm stitching over 1. That always gives me the equivelant size of my finished project to 14 ct aida, that is on 28 ct linen/evenweave. I think I'll try over 2 on my next project. I assume then it will be slightly larger, but not much.

If you are stitching on 28 ct and it comes out the same sizes as a 14ct aida then you are stitching over 2. If you stitched over 1 on a 28 ct it would come out half the size of what it would on 14ct. :D

I've used all three, aida, evenweave and linen, usually depending on what kind of result/finish I want at the end. Usually though, stitching on aida is a lot easier for me, so I'll usually default to it.

28ct evenweave over 2 will give the same size as 14 ct aida. The reason is when you count stitches that are done "over 2", you have to divide the stitch count by 2..28 divide by 2 is 14. I've done many designs that call for 14 ct aida on 28 ct evenweave, and have never had it come out larger. If you stitch over one on the evenweave though, the design will be smaller (by half). If you use a higher count evenweave say 36ct, then the design will be smaller. A smaller count of evenweave, say 25ct, and the design will be bigger. (I hope I got that right)

Absolutely right :-).

Although the mathematician in me would like to point out that when done "over 1" a design will actually come out to 1/4 of the size -- half the height and half the breadth, therefore a quarter the area :-) * sorry for being pedantic...*

Ahhhh thank you! :)

Don't worry I wasn't offended. I had been thinking one quarter, but wasn't sure so went with "smaller"

Actually ladies, I was just trying to keep it simple. If you come up in one hole, you skip the middle hole and go down on the third. Thus 123. If you look, you will see that you are stitching over 2. Just up in one hole skip the middle hole and down on the third. So sorry for any confusion.
