Thanks for all the feedback. I'm just glad to have a little time (and the dexterity) to be able to get some stitching done.
I've backstitched more of the edge of the central panel today, but it doesn't show up on the pics very well. I'll try to get another update ready for the weekend.

Another coupls of updates
10 May - bottom right of the design completed... confetti stitches on bottom left started

11 May - confetti stitches almost completed on bottom left... backstitching in progress

I'm really enjoying the visual effect of backstitching this border, and I've been considering having a go at some blackwork or similar project soon...
but just to show how much of a novice I still am, I'd been using a double running backstitch technique to do the border without even realising that it was a recognised method

With a bit of luck, I'm hoping to get it finished within the coming week.
Yes i'm pleased with it - If anything I actually prefer the surround more than the centre panel 8)

Dazbo, that is so impressive. I showed my husband and he thought it was amazing. (Just had to prove that men stitch too) Actually, he is very supportive and he appreciates the time and effort that it takes to sitich. He's my biggest cheerleader.

Well done, Dazboo, this is going to be wonderful. I also like the frame even better than the patten in the middle. You have done a great work.

There are some very nice free blackstitch patterns out there, if you want to try it out.
