The cross stitching is done and now on to the back stitch. I don't mind back stitching, but this is a bit different in the center as it is a somewhat intricate design and though I have backstitched when stitching over 2, that has been minimal and mostly Lizzie Kate or similar patterns. So I am going slowly to make sure that I am counting these correctly. That is for the center part. The letters around the outside I think will be easier. I hope. I have loved stitching this and will finish all but adding the names and date until the time gets closer. I'm itching a bit to get back to a few of my neglected (and starting to whine) HAED projects.
Thanks for looking.
Carole

Royal blue is my favorite (and the accent color at my wedding) so naturally I'm in love

Thank you so much for your comments. The engagement became official several weeks ago and its been a bit hectic since then. The current plan is to get married a year from this November, as it is going to be a large wedding (a production I think) in Charleston (

) and most of the venues (if not all of them) that can host a large wedding ceremony and reception (groom has a very large family) are booked up for at least a year or more in advance. This weekend the newly engaged couple will be driving down from Columbia, SC where they are living (until the end of the month when they move to Atlanta) and my sister is flying in from Los Angeles and we are going to be spending all day Friday and most of Saturday in the ridiculously hot (97 to 100 degrees F = 36 to 37 degrees C, I think) weather walking around downtown Charleston and also checking a few plantations for possible venues. Should be fun, but would be more fun if the weather was at least 10 degrees cooler.
I am pretty sure that I am glad I am not the one having to make any decisions about this. Glad to be only an onlooker. A caring one, but planning to not stick my 2cts worth in between some pretty strong minded women.

That sampler is absolutely stunning Carole and I

it. Amazing stitching and wonderful detail in it. Well Done.
Good luck with the hunt for a venue - I don't envy them one bit.

Almost done! At least for now. I only have the outside lettering to stitch and I am going to stitch all but their names and the date (as yet undetermined though it will be in the fall of 2017). I'm not sure that I have enough of the thread I will need to finish it, so decided to order another skein to use in case the dye lots were different and it would be noticeable. I'm sure I'll find something to stitch with it

). Should be here in a day or two and then I will put it up until it's time to finish it. That way I can't be tempted to give it to them early (as I tend to do with gifts).
Here is a close-up of the center:
And the whole sampler so far:
Thanks for looking!

Sounds like a plan.
I can never understand long engagements, though. If you want to get married, get it over & done with. [Tracy & I knew each other for all of 8 months before the wedding, and I accidentally proposed to her 3 weeks after we met in July, 26 years ago] The only reason I can see for having a long engagement is that you're not certain if the other is '
The One'. And if uncertain, don't get married.
In fact, the plan seems like a good one, just in case they are hesitating for that reason & a different name may be needed...
The whole design looks quite remarkable and I hope that they do, indeed get it in the end - just don't forget you've done it in the mean time.
Regards,
Richard

Thank you Richard. The long engagement is due to the fact that they both want a big wedding and deciding where it will be is a big part of deciding the date. Charleston, despite its size, is a city where many people come for weddings and the reality is places get booked far in advance. They chose Charleston because the groom to be's family is from here and his 90 y.o. very spry grandmother lives here and it would be easier for her also. (Fortunately for me, I am only a spectator and not a decision maker regarding the planning. Only give my opinion when specifically asked.) The couple has been together for quite a while and I'm not putting the names in the sampler, mostly because I am much less likely to give the sampler, which is a surprise gift, too early, not because I think the names will change. And because I'm a little bit superstitious about things like that. Did the same thing when I made baby afghans or samplers. Don't finish things till the baby's born. Also I hate waiting to give people gifts. My sister's birthday isn't until February and she got her present for next year, last May.
And besides which, once I had the pattern, my fingers itched to stitch it!

Almost finished, but until the wedding invitations come out or the "Save this date" messages are sent, I'm putting this away. Only need to add names at the bottom and the date (which as of now is October 21, 2017 - those of you who live in the Southern US will note that is a Saturday so college football schedules had to be checked to make sure no serious rivalry games are scheduled for certain schools) which I will stitch then.
I have to admit I am very very pleased with how it has turned out so far.
