Oh, by the way, I used four-sided edging on one side and hemstitch on the other to finish the top -- which do you think works best? Or do I just let them choose? They've already learnt four-sided edging but hemstitch would be new to them and I'm worried it might be a bit much for one lesson with all the pulled work stitches as well.

It looks great!
I vote let them choose...that way the ones feeling overwhelmed can do something they are comfortable with, the ones who want more challenge can try the new method

Finished the cross stitch and fractionals on the stained glass window, now all I have to do is the window's outline and the "lead", for both of which I am using DMC floche.
PS it's not so light and washed out as in the pic, must be the flash
I used three strands throughout for better coverage to make the colours pop

I also had a few quickie Christmas gifts to complete, for our neighbours who are looking after our cat Alfie over Christmas. I decided to make initial coasters for them, and here is his:
and mounted:
It's stitched on 14ct cream gold-fleck aida using Carrie's Creations stranded cotton in the shades Hearts On Fire and Old Plymouth Red. Her version will use the same fabric, but the shades Serenity and Purple.
