Silkweavers - I know a lot of people haven't been happy with them lately, and I will agree that their shipping time is a tad slow, but I'd still recommend them, as long as you are planning ahead. I placed a small order on their website, then started participating in their solo sales on facebook. The pieces I bought off the solo sales in the past couple of weeks arrived yesterday. The order I placed on their website is shipping on Thursday, which would put it at about 3 weeks. I'm not in dire need of the order quite yet, so the wait doesn't bother me. The fabric is great and so pretty. Plus, every piece of material I got had zig zagged edges!

This afternoon I order some DMC thread from Cross stitch Heaven 39p. I didn't like to use the paypal, not sure how, so I rang the lady and used my card. 20 minutes later I received an email saying they had been despatched !! Not bad :applesauce: :applesauce:

It's hard for me to get uptown so I use Sew and So online and they have always been excellent - i'm happy with the selection of items, the speed of delivery and communication.

So far I've used everything cross stitch and 123stitch. I've been impressed with both, though 123stitch is winning as number 1 so far. I'm a good hour from any stores that sell floss or anything else except for needles, so most of my supplies are ordered...I only venture into the city when absolutely necessary.

One complaint I have about both is that their websites are somewhat hard to search (though I've seen worse). For the most part, their prices are less than the big box craft stores, not much but enough to break even on shipping pretty easily.

Super great! The shipping was a bit slow, as they were gone at shows. But they caught up quickly and I got my order in a good time frame. The silks are beautiful and affordable, and they have tons of colors to choose from. Their shipping cost was very reasonable also.

I do NOT recommend this website. I had emailed the owner about getting a specific size of silk gauze material. At first she was pretty quick at answering my emails and answering questions. The pricing was good, so I placed my order. 2 weeks later I hadn't received my order, so I emailed her asking if it was shipped. Five days later I sent another email because I hadn't gotten a reply. She replied the next day saying she was out sick. Checking on her facebook page, I saw she had been out sick for just a couple days. Anywho, it took her two more days to let me know she supposedly tried to charge my credit card, but had "trouble" running it. I checked my account and had plenty in there to cover the charges. I asked her to just send me an invoice via Paypal. That was 2 days ago. :?

Needless to say, I won't be placing this order with her.

Does anyone have an internet cross-stitch site in the US to recommend to get Dinky-Dyes 600d Silk Perle (Perle #12)?

I've been trying to get it through Stitching Bits and Bobs, but it's taking weeks to get the order, and they don't reply to my email requests for a ship date. :x The order status information on their website is vague and isn't updated often.

I'd go through Sew and So in the UK, but with the exchange rate I'd be paying a lot more. It may be worth it just to get the floss.

Update: I found advice on another forum that said to call Stitching Bits and Bobs. Did it, and found out both of my orders will go out by Monday. Sorry for being b****y; haven't been able to stitch lately.

I would still like advice on where to get the Dinky-Dyes 600d Silk Perle.

CayenneCat - you could try emailing Cindy at ECC, although she does the full Chatelaine kits, stitchers often purchase single skeins of thread from her too.

I would highly recommend a favorite ebay seller of mine. They are always so quick to reply to any questions I have and they ship super fast. They are in Canada and their ebay ID is

I found a site in the UK recently.

After looking up 'Monaco' fabric I investigated their site pretty thoroughly.

http://www.stitcher.co.uk/" target="_blank" target="_blank

Their postage rates are very good...1st and 2nd class postage.

AND they are responsive! I made my order yesterday pm. Just after completing the order I found some free charts! So I emailed them and asked for it to be included in the package...they responded very quickly and added the chart. :D

This morning... everything has been dispatched...one thing not in stock but will come later and of course no extra postage!!

*edit*

They also post outside UK!

I would suggest http://www.cross-stitch-heaven.co.uk/index.asp for cheap DMC threads and quick dispatch times :)

Two weeks ago on the 24th I placed an order at http://www.maryjanes.com. As of today I have yet to hear a word from them about it and I haven't been charged for it. Even after attempting to contact them about the order status, I have never heard anything, and I finally broke down and ordered the items from a different site and received them today. I sent Mary Jane's an email to go ahead and cancel my order, so we'll see if I finally hear anything.

I don't know if anyone else has ordered from them or their experience, but personally I am not impressed. :?

I've just ordered two pieces of fabric from stitcher.co.uk. I ordered the first piece of fabric before I realised they did the other one I wanted as well, so I then ordered the second piece of fabric, but of course I had to pay postage a second time.

I emailed them to explain my mistake and asked if they could put the two pieces of fabric into one parcel and refund any overpaid postage. I received a very prompt email from Emma in the sales team saying that she had done as I'd asked, and the money was refunded to my PayPal account within an hour of my placing the order.

A big thumbs up!! :applesauce: :applesauce:

eta: I've just received an email from them confirming that they've despatched my fabric - just one hour and 15 mins after I placed my order! And at lunchtime, too!! :D

I used to be hesitant ordering from the internet, but unfortunately there are not too many shops with supplies I need. The few that have them have downsized cross stitching considerably.

I have, therefore, tried and received excellent service from both Herrschners and 123 Stitch. From the time an order has been placed and to the time it has actually been received has always been reasonable and customer service via the phone has always been great. I will definitely continue ordering from both.

Salt & Pepper are having a summer fabric sale, so I picked a few fabrics that I hadn't tried yet (Lugana, Jobelan). My order arrived the same week. I am very impressed with the turn around. :)

I went over there to order...gave myself a $20 limit. Found $15 worth of items & they wanted to charge me $15 postage...? So I backed out of that page & found a "calculate shipping" button. Pushed it & got misdirected to a sale page....maybe there's a problem on their site? I'll write down my order & call it in tomorrow in the morning.

edited to add: since my order was heavy on the sale items (limited availablity) I went ahead & placed my order tonight with a message that there seems to be a problem w/the shipping charges & I asked that they verify correct ($5.50 NOT $15.50) I think I will call them in the morning to verify my CC is charged correctly.

Just a note for non-UK residents to be aware that eBay seller minervacraftsandfabricsuk only has two set prices for postal charges which are really over-the-top.

For example for small items:

A 7" embroidery hoop (GBP 2.99 / AU $4.42) has a postal charge of GBP 19.99 / AU $29.55!

A 4 pack of needlepoint/cross stitch needles (GBP 1.59 / AU $2.35) has the same postage cost.

I can't remember who it was but someone on the forum recommended Margaret Roberts for speciality threads. She has an eBay shop called "The Lil thread Shop" but you can order any quantity directly from her by email as well.
She is very helpful, especially with posting from the US and working out how much you can order to stay under the import duty, and her prices are incredible -- I ordered three Thread Gatherer hand-dyed silk ribbons plus a Caron Watercolours & Wildflowers, and including postage from the US it cost me less than the ribbons alone would have cost me from Sew & So!
