Yeah, I can't really see the difference between the two threads most of the time but with white and black, Anchor's is a richer/thicker floss. DMC's black and white sometimes feel waxed.

Well, back from Michael's. I still haven't :anotherfrog:'ed the roots (skipped over a full row of stitches  ) but took a pic to show my thoughts.

On the left is the variegated I bought. It's DMC's 4010 and it was called winter something. It's got all those greys, blues, greens I was thinking of plus creams and a bit of greyish lavender.

Next to it a lovely silver satin, it's DMC's Satin 415.

And the last 3 is DMC 415, 3753 and 3756, also in those tones I was thinking of.

Now I dunno which way to go. Not sure if I should do all just variegated, if mixing satin and regular would look right (never worked with satin), etc.

When I started (before I :ribbit: everything) I used DMC Satin for the trunk and really liked the way it looked and didn't have a lot of trouble using it. I love the way the variegated threads look on some of the others TOS's so I would think mixing and matching the floss you got for different sections on the tree will be lovely. I really like the shades you chose. And since they are all withing the same basic color scheme, mixing the type of floss should be really pretty and provide a bit of contrast too.

Hubby is concerned the colors I chose won't show against the white flecked fabric. I'll give it a go with a mix and match of all of those and see what happens. Hopefully I won't be doing any frogging! :ribbit:

And here's part one, btw. Tomorrow I'll start on the smyrna.

I love the variegated one! As for showing up against the fabric, I can see why he would be worried about that, but with stitches like these which have lots of texture it often works even when the fabric and the thread are practically the same shade -- like whitework. The shades are lovely and wintry and I think they'll look great on the sparkly fabric

Got the Smyrna done. I loved this one, it's an easy stitch and makes quite an effect! For this one I went with a blend of DMC 3753 and Anchor 1040. I tried with the other two light DMCs I had posted before but it was too light, but I had that grey green anchor and I think it worked perfectly.

Next is the French Knots, I'll work those with the variegated floss.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this tree fully grown! I love the colours you've chosen and I don't think I've seen another one like it :applesauce:  !

I'm having TOS withdrawal symptoms now that everyone else is starting theirs - maybe I should stitch another one.........!
