As long as there is a garden around or nearby, birds find everything they need for their nests. Humans may help with nest boxes, but only if those boxes are made properly.

Ok, I've chucked them on the compost heap. The birds can decide if they want to take them from there. Its is normally only the bigger birds who raid the compost heap like the Jackdaws, Piegeons and Magpies.

Our cat Rooster adores being brushed several times a day, and looses quite a bit of fur each time. We have to unclog his brush a couple of times a week. We put all of this in a wire bird feeder for the birds to take any time they want it. We've seen Sparrows with so much we have no idea how they can fly on occasions.

Richard.

That qualified for a big smile!

However, this convinces me cats CAN read:

It's precisely what every cat would do as a result of reading that sign.

Love them both. Too funny. Wendy's black cat looks an awful lot like my Rosey. And Richard, there is no doubt that the cat read the sign and sat down.

Nope. Exiled kitties. Although was impressed by the pigeon. Knew one cat that pulled a seagull through the cat flap. There was a ... tussle, let's say. And once I house-sat for friends with a white tomcat called Plato. He had obviously brought something inside (when you have cats, you kinda get a sense for it?). All I eventually found, while Plato washed his face and paws, were the rabbit's ears. It was like something from a Larson cartoon.

We had a cat when I was a child...he brought home all manner of livestock.Mostly goldfish from a neighbours pond. We rescued as many as we could.
The worst thing he brought home was a full grown Rat which he let go in the kitchen.
My father shut the cat ...and my Grandad in the hall whilst he tried to catch it. The reason that Grandad was shut in the hall was because he was chasing the rat with a Large Poker and doing a fair amount of damage to the kitchen with it ....he missed the rat completely!! :tizzy: :tizzy:

Very cute.

I'm just sad that kittens like these find themselves homeless for one reason or another -- this one isn't feral, for example. It's clearly been born into a household, because feral kittens act very differently around humans (in my experience, anyway). And I know that not everyone has the wherewithal to spey or neuter their animals. It's a conundrum.

Feral cats are very nervy near people.

We bought our last house and it came with a feral cat. He wanted to be comfortable around us, but could never quite bring himself to be. He did accept strokes & in the last year of his life he came in, settled in a warm spot, used Albert's dirt tray and didn't go berserk when the door was shut behind him. But he couldn't stand us being near for more than a couple of minutes. You could see him wanting a nice warm lap but couldn't bring himself to do it. He was a wild animal fighting against his instincts to do even what he did. We made him as comfortable as possible and eventually he got to the point simply moving was painful for him. At that point a vet came out to him for the only time in his life & put him to sleep. He was around 21 at that point. It was unbearably sad, but the best and only thing we could do for him.

You beat me to it, Richard! :applesauce:

I saw that this morning! What made me smile was the description of the sailor swimming with the cats on his back!!!

Lucky cats!
My step-brother was in the merchant navy and he said that cats were actually named as Part of The Crew and had to be accounted for in the event of an accident! :whoop:
