Holy moly! What a masterpiece this is! I'm just so amazed we can take a picture and stitch it! In my book...certainly gives new meaning to a picture is worth a thousand words! Can't wait to see this finished! So very well done :applesauce: :applesauce:

Latest update.
Image
Still working on page 14 of the plan:
Image
Working with dark threads over a black background is very difficult. I have tried changing the position of the lighting, brightness etc. The solution came to me when I realised that what I really wanted was a small spot of light exactly in front of my eyes. My wife dug out a 2 LED head torch she has, and hey presto.. it's bright enough to see everything easily. The torch has a pivot so it can point downwards a bit, so it can light whatever is 6" from my nose. Brilliant. Makes the dark colours so much easier to stitch.

Regards,

Richard.

Well Richard, as always a great update. So fascinating seeing your wife's hair emerge bit by bit. You have done very well since last time. Glad you sorted out lighting problem to help you with the stitching. Eagerly looking forward to next update :D :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

It has been 4 weeks since the last update. Where has the time gone?

Feels like it has been very slow progress with the dark browns on black for the hair - been getting a fair bit of eye strain despite the extra light. However, I have now finished one of the two main colours on this page (DMC 300, Mahogany Very Dark), all 1879 stitches. Then I'll have to finish the 1938 stitches of DMC898, Coffee Brown Very Dark - I have done over half of those.
Anyway, enough talk, a picture is worth a thousand words:

Wow, the detail on this piece is so a-m-a-z-i-n-g. I'm not sure I would have the patience for a piece like this. You are doing a fantastic job. :D

Thank you all for your kind comments.

It feels so slow at the moment & your encouragement is a help to keep the motivation going.

Re: Honeymoon Portrait Update 11 May 2015

After 72 very long days, I have finished page 14 of the chart.
Image

It looks as below:
Image

So, that's 30164 stitches, or 68.8%, complete. The last page of the chart took 72 days, at an average rate of 101.6 stitches per day. As the rest of the chart is the difficult dark colours, I suspect that is the sort of speed I have to look forward to from now on, so making an estimate for finishing sometime towards the end of October. It would be nice if it were to be earlier, though.

Next chart page I'm working on is page 21.

Regards,

Richard.
