Superb! I love the colours!
Good idea to put it away for a while. You'll know when it is the Right time to cut.

I expect when you do so you'll wonder why you waited!!

Thanks, Mabel. May I make a confession? See those dove's eyes? The design called for spider's webs, but I didn't like them...

I might take it along to EG today, but I'll probably take all the fabric that needs tacking for the amazing etui design by Betsy Morgan from Inspirations 93 (which was an anniversary present from DH, what a chap!). I'd put a link in, but can't find one! I'm trying to be good and follow directions on this one... wish me luck.
WW, you are probably correct. I have been looking sideways at the initial cutting of fabric in this etui since April!

Now that I've done it, it is as you wisely say... why did I dither?

Absolutely beautiful.
Interestingly enough, what you call doves'eyes, we call nightigales'eyes. Nightingales have always been very common here, in Ukraine. Do you have many of them in England, America and Australia?

Lyudmilla, Nightingales are a summer visitor to Britain mainly in the southern part of England (I'm a keen birdwatcher and have been for many years).

Call that a confession, Serinde

? If you don't like the spider's webs, why shouldn't you substitute dove's eyes? Your project, after all! The etui sounds interesting, is it like one of those folding things that hold threads and needles and scissors and whatnot?

Well, I really should have shown you this before I was almost half finished, shouldn't I? It is a design by Mary Hickmott called Winter Woods and is about 3 inches high by about 18 long or something like that. The clouds are all half cross stitch and might not show up much. The fabric is ice blue, I think. Bought years ago, but finally couldn't resist it.

I've always liked that design

Perfect time of year to show us this one.
I keep meaning to get the Cotswold Village out to stitch, by Mary Hickmott.

Oh! I have just now discovered Mary Hickmott and her designs, they are so beautiful! (I think I may have to buy her bellpull-charts).
Unfortunately I couldn't find a picture of your piece, but it's looking lovely! I love wintry scenes more than anything and this one is so exquisite!

Here you go:

The companion piece for it is called Highland Living (yes, I have that in my "to do" basket, too). I have done the big Autumn bell pull, which is gorgeous (and in my gallery, I think). All of them are labours of love, but well worth it. Mary Hickmott at her best makes her designs totally realistic. You feel you should be able to pick the berries. (Why use 5 colours when 12 will do?)
