I have just realised a lot of what I thought was backstitching is actually couching Joy of joys

I think that backstitch (and couching) are a necessary evil for a good finish.

I agree. Backstitch is not my favorite thing to do, and "necessary evil" is a perfect description in my opinion.

I agree with both of you. One of the attractions for me to HAED is that there is no backstitch. I know that it can be a necessary evil as evidenced by how important the bs is on my Star Wars figures.

The detail in those leaves is so beautiful.

I agree about the b/s bringing the yellow ;blobs' to life - well worth the effort.

Goodness. The "dress" design really comes to life.

Very well done with her face Jo, faces can often be the trickiest to get just right and you've done a great job.

The backstitch really makes her and her dress pop.
