Thank you for all your comments, everyone.

Well, it's looking like I might manage to finish this before Christmas after all. The Predator has become my project for doing at work for the time being and I thought I would stitch Simon's dragon only at weekends for now, which leaves me a couple of weeks still to work on this. Three sides of border to do and 5 more days. Oh and all the beads. I forgot about them. I'm going to do the "7 swans-a-swimming" wording when I get home tonight, then we're going out for a couple of hours, but I should be able to get started on the next bit when we get back. That will be the end of all the birds...."8 Maids a Milking" coming next.

Each one is so special and the detail in such a small place is amazing your stitching is beautiful.

Well, I got the wording done last night but that was it. We were going to a party and both of us thought it wouldn't really be "our sort of thing" and decided we would leave after a couple of hours, but it was great fun, we had a whale of a time and didn't leave until after 10pm, then it took us half an hour to get home, so it was straight to bed and no more stitching. I shall get a whole evening's worth in tonight though!

I love when things like that happen, that you didn't have very high hopes and then really enjoyed yourselves! And it is good to have a little break from stitching now & then too.
It must be really nice to be stitching a Christmas project right now as well, I've never been inspired to start early enough to finish for Christmas or motivated enough to do a Christmassy one during Christmas :? ...

I've never really done any Christmas projects before other than a couple of cards and little decorations, but when I saw this it jumped right out of the magazine at me and I had to do it.

Anyway, here's the finished swan picture with the writing...

And this is how far I've got on Day 8 last night......

After my post on 10 December saying it looks like I'll get this finished before Christmas, I'm eating my words! I've run out of four of the colours and it's going to take some time for me to get replacements (why one earth did I decide to use Madeira for this when I have DMC and Anchor stashes to cobble dogs with!) Anyway.....I'm going to carry on and do as much as I can of it with all the other colours and then finish it as soon as I can get the replacements. I will be able to do all the rest of the "8 Maids A Milking" except for the pale blue for the sky which is one of the ones I ran out of. Aim to get that done tonight and then it's "9 Ladies Dancing".

Sorry to hear about you running out of your colors! It always seems to happen like that when you have a project that you really want to get done. It's coming along beautifully, though!

Thank you, Busy - it is typical, isn't it? The same thing has happened on my Predator, I've run out of one of the dark blues, but luckily that is only a DMC one. Unfortunately my local shop has run out of it as well! But at least I have an online DMC supplier who sends things out the same day you pay for them, so if the Christmas post doesn't hold it up too much at least I'll have that in no time.

Coming along well, despite the thread shortage!
A similar thing has happened to my HAED, I ordered 8 of the next colours I'd need, then prompty lost the package! I was so annoyed, looked everywhere but it's literally just disappeared! However, Snow White has 3 of the colours I need so I've stolen them off her... and I'll just have to buy the other ones again :(

Also well done for all the patient backstitching of the lovely lettering & the swan's feathers!

Thank you Louise and Raven.

Well I had a bit of good luck - I found someone on ebay selling one single pack of one of the colours I'm missing and our very own Janet (minij) has one of the others and has offered to help by sending it and those two are the most important. Only two more to find now so at least I will be able to get all the border done (I was missing a red and a green) and most of the other pictures. There will just be odd bits to fill in later when I get the last two missing colours. :D
