Excellent news that Chad has had ice chips & apple sauce!!!
As for the police department covering up for the other driver

So what is going to happen with the case now? Don't know enough about the system to be honest but surely they ought to be made to pay compensation or something towards Chad's medical costs??

I have tears in my eyes too. I so hope that this is the start of a speeded up recovery. My thoughts come flying over to you and Chad.

Not totally sure..but I assume it's going to turn into more of a civil case. They will probably go after her insurance company to pay for Chad's medical and they may go after her too. If the police had originally found her liable for the accident, she probably would have lost her current job as a police officer because Chad's injuries are so severe she could have been charged with vehicular assault. I doubt they can do anything like that to her now since the police report has already been filed. I just don't know how she can live with her self knowing how bad chad's injuries are

The police dept should be sued as well for filing a deliberately inaccurate report. That's illegal, as well as callous.
But great news that Chad is progressing so well!

Chad's had another good day. The physical therapist came into evaluate him and she got him to do 100 percent of the commands she asked him to do..He even did a thumbs up, stuck his tongue out, and threw the ball. I've never even got him to do those things. Also when you feed him the ice chips with the spoon, he will grab the spoon and do it himself. It's been a really huge week for him. This is the most I have seen him progress in the last 4 months. He has to be able to tolerate the therapy for 3 hours a day before he can go to a rehab facility and he's tolerating maybe an hour right now so a little ways to go for that but he's moving in the right direction.

Way to go Chad! Sounds like he's doing great! I am appalled at the way the police handled it.. I get the comraderie that develops between police officers, but you'd think they above all would know that they aren't above the law...

WOOOOHOOO!!! That's fantastic news about Chad. Seems like for that first month, his body and mind needed to heal itself before the progress started to show.
Shame on the police department for covering up for their colleague. I hope they can be made to pay.

Yesterday was actually 4 months since his accident..so this has been a very long process and he still has a long way to go but glad he's finally making some progress.

I know! We knew something was up with the police department when it took over 7 weeks to get the police report. I have never in my life seen a car accident take 7 weeks to investigate.

Kerri, this is the first post I've read since I got home from holiday last night and I am so thrilled for you and Chad. Best news I've heard for a while.
Fingers crossed for a rapid recovery and a spell of good luck for you both now.

kerbear879 wrote:Chad's birthday was yesterday and I think he ended up getting all of us a gift… he grabbed at my face… I gave him one of his baseball hats and he grabbed it and put it on his head and then started readjusting it until he got it on just right… Then later in the day I had one of his nerf type balls and normally he will take it from you if you hold it in front of him, well this time I acted like I was going to throw it and he put his hand up like he was going to catch it so I threw it and he caught it and then he would hand it back to me and he did this over and over…
WOW!!! That’s fantastic!!! What a wonderful birthday gift!!!
kerbear879 wrote:Well Chad is now allowed to have ice chips. They tested him today and he chewed them up and swallowed… She was suprised so she tried to give him some applesauce. It seemed like he swallowed that just fine too… would try the applesauce and maybe pudding later this week and next week… He's also been rolling himself over in the bed… police department and it looks like they covered up what really happened…
OOOO!!!! What great improvements!!!

He only needed to rest a while, now he’s got the energy, the will and the fighting power!!

GO CHAD!!!!

alright another good week. So they did a barium swallow test on him where basically they sit him in front of an xray and give him food with barium in it so they can see that it's going down right and he passed so now he can eat pureed foods and have liquids that are nectar consistency. This morning he had pureed up french toast, cream of wheat, and orange juice..then mashed potaotes, carrots, beef and iced tea for lunch and he eats pretty much most of it. They think if he keeps eating good then they may not even have to feed him through the feeding tube at all. So definitely good news..
Also, he definitely knows it's me! He kisses my hand all the time now and yesterday even leaned over to give me a kiss on the lips and he'll blow me kisses. The nurses all think it's so cute and agree that he knows its me. It's been very uplifting.
