 I understand that it is the word play around "loose" and "theft", but still cant see the grain of the joke. Hard is the life of a foreigner. :D

Mabel, what a lovely lot of new threads charts and other bits and great that the birthday morning all but covered the cost. Looking forward to seeing them come to life. :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

Wendy that is going to be absolutely gorgeous to watch being brought to life. So like the springs I used to know before I moved up here to the winterless north. Iwill be watching this one with much interest. :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

@ Lyudmila:
That reminded me of an old and silly joke - Why won't Marxists drink loose leaf tea? Because proper tea is theft....
This is a joke on the way the words sound in English, which is often spoken very quickly. So, taking the Marxist dictum that all private ownership of property is theft and coupling it with the class-ridden notion that the only "quality" tea in England is loose leaf tea, we are making a joke out of "property" and "proper tea" (say that quickly, and you'll get it, I think).

There is a rather good cartoonist for a national paper in the UK, Martin Rowson, who often features furry teacups in his cartoons, glaring malevolently from the background (they are fun to try to spot). They generally appear when the government has made yet another mistake. His Brexit cartoons, in particular, are full of the so-called "furcups". Say that word fast, and you'll find that another expression pops into your brain which pretty much characterises the British govt response to most things...

I hadn't heard of that one Serinde - and of course I don't understand it At All   :-)

This is getting seriously off-topic, but I just love the way you can play with language, and the English language offers much scope. Because I used to do illuminated calligraphy as well, this one has always made me groan as well as chuckle:

This speaks to that terrible editorial moment when you go absolutely cold.

Thank you, Serinde. Now I laugh last, as in the joke: "He laughs last who was the last to understand the joke".

A few kits from Bluebird Embroidery (must support those independent designers!) to prepare me for my Silk Shading module of the Certificate. This won't actually happen until 2022 at the earliest and has to be a flower, but it's never to early to start and surely the technique remains the same!

Sounds like a very good reason to have gotten those kits. By the time you are in the section of the certificate, you'll be able to float right through it. Besides the fact that they are going to be fun to stitch .

Oh my they are really fabulous kits, if it was me with them I would be sitting down to start doing them NOW. A fabulous buy and I agree we need to encourage local designers.

Uhm, it may be a while - I've got the last bits of the SAL to finish, and about 6 kits in the queue before these :-) not to mention several of my own designs! (Although that fox may just sneak in ahead of some others.... or the robin, because he reminds me of our resident - and very vocal - robin!)

I do like cheeky robins! We have some in our garden...they are very territorial so those in the front don't get along with those at the side and they don't get along with those at the back!!

These are my Birthday presents : the Lowery stand and a new kit from Magic needle. I am really chuffed. I never thought that I would own a Lowery.
It really does not take much room. Beautiful craftsmanship too
