It's been a long time since I have seen snow like your recent Colorado Blizzard, Debby. It is so beautiful when its clean and fresh and Lions are playing in it. I have always been thankful that I grew up where snow and blizzards are not uncommon (Chicago). Playing in the snow, building snowmen, forts and massive snowball fights are fun. I am also very grateful that most of my adult life has not included getting to work, shoveling snow off of sidewalks and cars.

Wow, Debby, that's nuts.

OK, Tracy & I were also caught out by a blizzard at Mammoth Lakes when on honeymoon (end March / April 1991). Snow in California in April? Never even though of the possibility. We left Death Valley at noon (98F, 36C) and arrived at a campsite near Mammoth Lakes in that blizzard (14F, -10C). The campsite owner did a hysterically funny double-take when Tracy got out of the van in shorts and a halter bikini top.

Richard

Oh, I love the lions. Denver Zoo is fun. I haven’t been for a couple years but I do have a membership.

Love the cheater homing pigeon, too. LOL

@Richard - Death Valley and Mammoth in one trip? Cool...literally in Mammoth.

@Carole - I love living where there is snow (although I don’t like driving in it)...and all four seasons. It’s not unusual for us to have all four seasons in a single day. Before I moved to Colorado, I had never enjoyed true seasons (Washington, Guam, Southern California).

Richard, I've had days like that. Fingers crossed today isn't one of them.

Don't know which photo made me smile more. The homing pigeon or the cat who lost her (or his) head for a minute. Either one or both could be me.

If you like miniatures, this video about tiny houses and rooms is fascinating. Worth watching to the end where he does single line drawing. Wish there had been more about this because to be honest, that was my favorite part of the video, even though I love miniatures. I'm going to be checking to see if there are any more about single line drawing.

Thanks Carole, I love miniature things - and I'll watch out for that line drawing!

Does there have to be one :-) ?

It's not that I don't understand your point of view - these things may not have any use as such; but then quite a few of the things that I do may not have a point when seen by someone else. Why do I go for walks in the countryside? Because I enjoy it and it makes me feel good. Why do I sometimes create embroideries that will never be framed or given to anyone? Because I enjoy the process of making them. Perhaps the maker of these miniatures simply enjoys the challenge of making something that small look as accurate and as "real" as possible.

It's a luxury position to be in, to be able to do things that in themselves have no purpose just because you enjoy them; I am so grateful to be in that position. And perhaps being able to do these things also make me a more pleasant person to be with :-)

To begin with, long walks are vitaly important for being alive and healthy. Your embroidery CAN be used to bits in a thousand of projects. I do agree that making those miniatures may be a joy to their creator.

I'm not sure how small the miniatures were in that video. I'm sure I have seen exhibits with smaller ones, but the extreme detail, even to the waste paper fascinates me. When I was about 11 or 12 a friend of mine and I became enamored of creating miniatures after a visit to the Art Institute in Chicago (I think their miniature room) or the Museum of Science and Industry which featured what was called the Million Dollar Doll House. Anyway, we began building miniature rooms using an odd assortment of materials we found beginning with (and now I date myself) empty cigar boxes. I don't think they were very good, but it gave me an appreciation of the work and precision that are involved.

I also was fascinated with the end piece of the video about the single line drawing. I had never seen that before.
