I just like the coverage you get with full crosses. I and I also found that I did not get as much enjoyment out of my stitching as it kind of felt as if I was cutting corners, if that makes sense? I do a lot of Dimensions kits as well though and they use half crosses for the background in most of their designs which seem to work well as it gives a more textured feel
I think I'll just do full crosses. Like said, feels like cutting corners lol! I think I would get too OCD about it. I'll do test stitches still though.
As for stitching technique, I swear by tent stitches, HAEDs are of such a size I wouldn't feel like I was making any progress if I did full crosses... and now (naughty me) full crosses feel strange, like going over it twice instead of moving on to the next one. I use 2 strands on 25ct, have done with both dark & light colours and find the coverage is not a problem. I wouldn't try to use 2 strands on any lower count than 25 though, I have one project with 3 strands tent stitched on 22ct but stitching that feels completely different, like doing a tapestry. Most of mine are now on 27 count which I think is a good balance between the 25ct and 28ct (OK, only one stitch per inch less than 28ct, but I notice it!!)
What an interesting thread! I'm working my Fljotsdale Dragon on (I think) 24ct - maybe 25 - and I'm using 1/1 crosses. I'm not entirely happy with the coverage, but 2/1 is lumpy and ugly though it covers well.
However, I have 3 HAED in the pipeline (never done one before, now I have 3... ) so I'm planning to experiment with crosses v tent and one or 2 threads on both. I figure it is the best way to determine which suits me best.
I'll be interested to see which stitch you use for this charming project in the end!
When I discovered HAEDs I swore by the full crosses, like everyone else feeling that I was cheating by not making the full cross. I then became addicted to large charts with more than 300,000 stitches in them and I had a moment of weakness and tried the tent stitch. I'm never going back.
If you look at the links in my sig at the end of my post, the QS Shining On was done on 28 ct. in full crosses and the Impetuous Arrival was done on 28 ct. in tent stitch. That will show you the difference in the way the two look. On such small count, I have actually come to prefer the look of the tent stitch. It's a little less bulky and since all the threads are going the same way, I think there's more of a sheen.

I can't see any of the images for "HAED - Impetuous Arrival by Drazenka Kimpel"... Every update post you had in the thread just had the word Image for me instead of an actual image o_O
To each his own, I personally prefer full cross. When stitching on 25 ct I use 1 over 1, 2 strands is impossible on 25 count. But my favourite is 2 over 1 on 22 ct. I am not a fan of tent, for me it has a slightly slanted feel to it. What ever you choose in the end, just be happy, you are the one who has to look at it everyday, listen to everyones advice, cause it comes from experience, but make your own decision. At the end of the day it is your masterpiece!

I agree, I ended up going with 2 over 1 because I didn't like the fabric showing through.
Oh my! What a beautiful design. Both my girls are in ballet so I have a soft heart for ballet photos and this one is just beautiful. I may have to keep it in mind if I ever become available to do a HAED.
This is a beautiful design. I really like it. Your progressing well. I'm using 2 over 1 tent on 28ct for Aveyond and at the moment I am trying 2 over 1 tent on 25ct on Bridge of wings. I love the tent on Aveyond but not sure about it on bridge. Tried 2 over 1 full X on it at first and hated it was way too bulky. My OH loves the look of the tent as he think it looks a little less pixilated. Also tried 1 over 1 full X on 25ct Dublin linen but didn't like the coverage, now I am doing 2 over 1 full X on it. The material can make a big difference.
In the end it is whatever you feel most comfortable with. I thought I would never use tent, as like others my brain was telling me I was cheating, then I tried it and fell in love.
