One of you has got it right... but I'm not saying who!

You'll soon see, I think.

I like that one, too, Maggie.
Next:
I'm being careful only to stitch for a short time each day, to rest my thumb - but I hate it! I just want to keep stitching, and it's very frustrating.
Can you identify it yet?

I think that it is a tortoise or turtle which needs to be turned so that the head faces towards the right instead of straight up.

I think you are right Rosemary--looking more like a tortoise or turtle to me too!

Not going to play the guessing game because I've seen this before and already know what it is, but just had to say it's really cute

After the first picture I wanted to say a salamander, but now I agree with the turtle idea. Really lovely. Hope your thumb gets better soon.

Ok, you've got it! Aboriginal turtle.

I think it looks rather like a native African shield, apart from the house-shaped head!

But it is upright, like that - it's just only half the shell stitched so far.
And thank you all for your good wishes about my thumb!

It really is coming along very nicely and is looking more and more like the turtle! Great design!

Cool! I was going to say I think the turtle fit best. I'm glad so many liked my worm in a girdle comment!
Can't wait to see more progress and a finished turtle -- I hope your thumb is better soon. I'm dreading going in for a shoulder issue I've had for several months, as I have a feeling that whatever they have to do, it's going to involve zero use of my sewing arm (was dislocated when I was little and it's always been 'loose'; now it's been giving me a lot of trouble w/ pinched nerves etc). I like cross stitching so much that I might have to learn to use my left hand and my mouth if that happens!
