Your first horse is looking lovely!
And yes - you are not the only one who has learned a lot from Tips and Tricks forum! VERY useful place!

Here's progress after Day 3. I decided today that since there's no way I can finish the whole thing by my friend's bday, what I'll do is push to get the 1st horse done and then show it to her and give her the choice of how I continue. She's a very artistic person so letting her choose if I do 1, 2, 3 or 4 horses and if I stitch them on separate pieces of aida would make her happy. (You should see her house...every decoration is chosen so precisely her house could be in a magazine.) Her birthday is tuesday so I have tomorrow and maybe part of tuesday before I have to have the 1st horse done to show to her.
Today I focused a lot on one color at a time so that's why it looks so patchy:

You have done an amazing job in a very short time. Your friend is going to be delighted and letting her make part of the decision will make the gift even more personal.

Day four and the first horse is complete...just in time for my friend's birthday tomorrow. I'll ask her if she wants to me to continue with the other 3 horses at all, and if so, if she wants them on the same piece of aida or if she wants it cut into multiple pieces.
There wasn't any backstitch on this piece and it was all full cross stitches - no fractionals.

Lovely job and very fast stitching! I'm sure your friend will appreciate your effort, and the chance to decide where the design goes from here - very personailzed approach.
