Pretty good backside, I'd say, and an adorable front!

Hi all, been working on this on and off for the past ten (!) days. Got a fair bit done, but at the moment frustrated at the border...
See, I realised the border was... uneven. As in, while for the most part it seemed to go:
XXOOXX
XXOOXX
(X = stitch, O = blank)
I made the mistake of noticing that some parts tended to go
XXOXX
XXOXX
Unfortunately, I tend to be very anal about some things, and that bugged me A LOT. So I tried figuring out a way to redo the border so it was, more or less, even. That led me to having to pretty much restructure the entire border. I thought I had it figured out - the sides work okay, and I was sure the top/bottom would be okay as well.
Apparently I was wrong.

So am going to have to frog all the stitches I've done on top (I think that's all... bottom should be okay, I hope) and try to refigure it out again. I should of just left it as it was originally designed, but it just BUGGED me.
Anyways, image...

Tidy...
I can't help but feel different knowing all that I've done.
Either way, I strive to one day achieve the backside perfection some people on this forum have!
And... frogged most of top border, and managed to figure out a different way of doing it that works just fine. Like I hoped, I thankfully didn't have to undo the work I did on what little I had done of the bottom border... planning on finishing all of the remaining border,, before moving on.
Does anyone else here try to do one colour at a time if possible? I usually attempt that, but at the moment I'm hopping between three different colurs.

Ya, I did it once. Try to finish one color at a time and when the work had reached quite an advanced stage I realised I had miscounted ONE stitch and the two halves of the kitten didn't meet at all. Had to really do a lot of innovations and was quite frustrating. From then on I decided to work in continuity like a progrssing wave no matter how many colors I have to manage simultaneously.

Good luck with the border. I am sure you will work it out. I like this piece a lot. The pups are so cute.
On small projects I sometimes did one color at a time, but I like to see the picture emerge. On big projects it requires too much counting and again, I like to watch the picture emerge, especially with something like a HAED design. But some of our members stitch one color at a time. The great thing with cross stitch is you get to do what you are most comfortable with.

Your work looks great. Sorry that the boarder is giving you a tough time that is not fun.
I try to finish off one color at a time when it is in a large block of color but most of the time I just finish off the thread and then try to see if another color would be needed to finish the space I am working.

We all work what is best for us, that is what is so fun about this craft no way is wrong it is just different.

back of your work is so neat. As neat as the front. If that is bad I will NEVER be able to show my work at all.

This is such a cute chart, and you are making great progress on the lovely puppies.
I stitched the Westie and the yellow lab a few years back on their own as Christmas cards, and I still love they way they turned out, just so cute.

I have a confession to make... part of me really wants to change colours on the westie to make it a scottie instead, but I have no idea how I'd go about doing so without messing everything else up. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know it's silly, and I probably will be too worried about messing things up to go through with it... but I can't help liking scotties more than westies!

i guess you could look at pictures of scotties and get threads to match the fur color.
as for all your work and the border - WOW- looks great! (showed the pic of the back to DH and he said i have a long way to go before mine looks that good!)
i like to work an area, no matter how many colors i need. feels like a mini finish, so i'm satisified, and can more easily pick it up again.
love what you are sharing ...
