I'm happy to post an update!! I have no idea which part of the design I am stitching. I
think it is Hermit's paw on the staff. The photo is huge, sorry about that! But it looks so much better big! haha!

I am starting in the centre. It's how I've done all my projects and made the most sense to me. I laid out the entire chart, found the centre, highlighted the squares, then got started. I've never used a frame to stitch with, so I'm finding it a bit difficult once the thread gets really short, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
Hi there, I think its very rich in color and alive looking. I will be excited to see the progression. I am very new here and very new to cross stitching, got my kit today, and was reading your thread, and noted you said something about highlighting the squares. How does one highlight squares? on the pattern or the chart?
what does HAED stand for?

I'm not sure what mimers does when she highlights. I highlight the chart where I have already stitched. Makes it easier for me to see quickly what is next.
HAED is the name of a website/chart designer who's charts many of us like to (are addicted to) stitch. This design that mimers is doing is one of their charts. They create cross stitch charts which use a lot of colors, no half or quarter stitches and no backstitching. They tend to be o large and detailed.

Hi there! And welcome - I am fairly new here as well.
So, I literally used a yellow highlighter to identify the 4 squares at the centre of my chart. As I stitch, I use a pen to colour in the square I have just completed. You'll see most of the stitchers here grid their fabric and start directly in the left upper corner and work their pages one by one. I have only ever used kits, which are usually only 1-2 pages of charts, so for me it was just easier to find the centre and move out. It certainly makes for less dramatic updates, as I'm not really even sure what I'm stitching right now! haha!
