A great start. Well done on mastering French knots so quickly.
Personally, I'd do the backstitching as I went along but like most have said, it is personal preference which order you do things. But follow Rose's advice and you can't go wrong.

I'm pretty sure I will do the BS as I go along. As soon as I'm done with Mother Goose, I will back stitch her. I don't mind back stitching too much, but I don't think I would like to do it all at once.

Personally, I do my backstitching at the end. I love the before back stitch and after back stitch pics. Back stitch makes such a difference. But,of course, you do as you want. It is your project. We each need to find the method that works for us on any given project.
I'm looking forward to seeing more progress reports.
HAED Mind if I Hang Out -Page 17/36 finished. ?/154,350 stitches
Hang In There - finished, waiting for a decision on framing or turning into a mini quilt
Universal Monsters - finished, waiting in line to frame
I forced myself to stop working on the HAED so I could make some progress with this. Made a lot of progress tonight, though Mother Goose looks kind of creepy without a face...
As soon as I finish filling in her face and part of her legs, I'll backstitch the finished parts of her and finally move the hoop so I can work on something besides Mother Goose.

Great update. Mama goose is looking good, even without all the details.

Haha, I was tempted to stay up last night and finish her face, but it was already way past my bedtime. Hopefully, she will get less weird looking this weekend.

I finished filling in Mother Goose's face and so had as much of her as I could complete before I have to move the hoop. This is what I have before backstitching.

This is what I have after doing all the backstitch on the parts that are complete:

Notice that Mother Goose has only one eye. Also, she is missing two nostrils. Apparently, I cannot do French knots after 8pm. She'll have to have reconstructive surgery at a later date.
