I have to agree as well after taking a good look at the original art. The way this stitches up doesn't even look like the same painting other than the fact that there are several women in dresses in it. You can't really see any of the detail and it's much too dark. I was going to buy this one as well until I saw this posting.

I have started stitching it and had to stop. I wish it was a bigger chart and wish there wasn't so much black or brown-black in the work :(

May have to just chart the picture myself and stitch it as a non HAED...

The original is much more appealing. The chart is very dark and you can't see the detail. Sorry you had to be disappointed by the chart.

The finished article looks nice in a dark sort of way but it doesn't seem to bear much colour resemblance to the original; it's always difficult to tell on a monitor, of course, but the original seems to have golden trees and much more colour in the dresses, and overall a much lighter, airier feel.

Although I'm not sure the Trades Description Act applies to products such as these (but you may wish to look into it) I do think it is different to such a degree that you could return it and ask for your money back if you wish. With charts this complex (and expensive) it's silly that you should do half the work on it yourself! And as HAED often only show the artwork on their site, not a stitched piece, you culdn't be expected to know that it would be so different.

I just received an email from Linda; she said that, she has forwarded my message to the chart department. Once she "hears back from them," Linda will let me know the decision on recharting Golden Wood.

if anyone hasn't seen the original pic, it's here:

3rd one down and it enlarges to show all the lovely dress colours, to say nothing of the golden wood. :)

How beautiful is that?
Thanks for the link to the original, HAED should really consider to rechart it. The original picture is so colorful and glowing, nothing like the pic of the stitched piece the HAED website is showing. :(

I have an update from Haed, Linda said they will not be re-charting Golden Wood.
Linda said that, in the past the charting department tried to redesign and could not do any better than they have, with the range of colors from DMC.

Sorry everyone, I wish I had better news; I know this is a great disappointment.

Yea, to me, it looks like this picture would require alot of bending to get the colors you need.

I looked at Golden Kite and at Mystic Stitch, thinking they might have a chart of this, but couldn't find it at either site by name or artist. Maybe they have tried but ran into the same issue of having threads, even by blending, that can do the colors properly? What a shame because it is such a stunningly beautiful piece of art.

This has been an interesting thread. It does make me wonder why they would offer something so unlike the original.

All of you who bought that chart really should demand your money back. It's nothing at all like it should be. The original is so light and airy and the HAED is so gloomy.

I agree with clockwork. HAED didn't sell you what you thought you were purchasing.

Maybe they shouldn't offer designs they can't chart very well.

I agree with Fljotsdale and Clockwork to ask for your money back.

That chart was on my wishlist for a long time before I finally decided against it in favour of a different chart. Glad I did, now! I hope those of you who bought the chart either manage to get it recharted or get your money back (ideally both!).

agree.

the design only uses 50 colors, as they offer designs with up to 90 colors I think they can do better, they just dont want to.

That would definitely be a more honest course of action than selling a design by means of the artwork which is then completely different from that artwork.

If lots of customers have asked for this particular picture, I think customers would appreciate the sincerity of them saying "We're sorry, this one we cannot do properly with the colours available, therefore we will not do it at all rather than do it badly".

Or at least have a disclaimer stating that due to the thread colors available, the finished product will differ significantly from the original artwork. I think if they acknowledge that there is a difference and tell people upfront, then it's fair to let people decide for themselves if they want to proceed or not.

I definitely agree with that because I know there have been a few that they just wouldn't do because they couldn't get the right colours and it just didn't work out right. That is what they should have done with this one instead of having customers that are not pleased with this chart. I love HAED and have bought many charts from them but there are some that I have seen that just don't look right with the colours they have chosen.

The ones that I am thinking of are the birthstone charts. They just can't get the backgrounds right and they look awful to me so I have not bought any even though I love them. The shading on JBG's faces are wrong also in my opinion. Having said that, I still did buy a couple because I fell in love with them and I'm just hoping they won't look so awful once they are finished.
