The way I did this was to find a list of all the DMC colors online somewhere and stick them into a spreadsheet... then I went down the list and marked every 7th color - since I can fit 7 bobbins in each section, and used that to put my bobbins in the right places. I use home made cardstock bobbins and once I'd cut enough to wind the floss I have, I made a whole bunch more, labeled them with the colors I still need, and went ahead and inserted them into the right spaces. Now when I buy new floss, I divided it up based on which box it should go into, and then sit tthere with one box at a time, pulling empty bobbins to wind and put back into place. The empty bobbins helps in keeping things from flopping over or falling out when the boxes are open.curly sue wrote:NeedleAndFork, that is an excellent idea for arranging the bobbin boxes. I just finished winding a box and three quarters. They haven't been incorporated into the main boxes yet so I will give your idea a try. I have about 300 colors of the DMC line and want to acquire the full set.

Re: Question about Needle Sizes
OMG!! So much to think about! Thank you! I never would have considered any of that until it was too late.A suggestion if you're planning on going this way - figure out how you want to store your stash and plan ahead for all the colors. I first put what I had into a single bobbin box, and then expanded to two.. and had to keep rearranging as I got more colors. Finally I wised up and bought 2 more boxes and arranged them as if I already had the full set, putting empty bobbins in as place holders for the colors I don't have yet. Now when I get a color, I just wind it onto the empty bobbin and insert it back into it's space.. no constant rearranging!

Ok, I think my plan of action now is to make a plan for floss storage, then pick the pattern, and then start accumulating the floss.
I cannot believe how much I have learned from all of you in just 6 weeks! You are all the nicest people. Thanks for all the help!

Re: Question about Needle Sizes
That is pure genius! I've been dreading filing away the last major ebay floss purchase, which is only partway bobbinated after idk how many weeks on the floor. I'm sick of moving bobbins around. lolNeedleAndFork wrote:The way I did this was to find a list of all the DMC colors online somewhere and stick them into a spreadsheet... then I went down the list and marked every 7th color - since I can fit 7 bobbins in each section, and used that to put my bobbins in the right places.
