Thank you Allyn, I am going to buy a lapstand because I only have a big couch and that is not soutable for a floorstand.

Is also stitch on my big couch and I use a floor stand!! I use a Lowery. So it is possible to use one!

As Wen pointed out, you certainly can use a floor stand when sitting on the couch, so look around a bit at all the different kinds of lap stands and floor stands before you make a decision. A stand that is the perfect solution for one person won't work at all for someone else.
