I never heard of a lot of things until I joined the forum. Gridding, parking, cross country stitching and a bunch of other techniques and styles etc.
I never gridded before and now on all my BAPs I grid. These are generally HAED designs and without the gridding I would never stitch, I would just keep counting and recounting etc. Wish I had known about it when I was stitching Teresa Wentzler designs. I think that would have made my life simpler. I use a washable ink pen and have never had trouble with it washing out. I'm a cross country stitcher also but the grid lets me make a quick double check that my counting is right. I usually stitch one page with a few columns to the right and a few rows down, because I often will continue past a page if it makes sense to me to do that. I haven't gridded with Hardanger, though I do mark the center.

Like so many others I hadnt heard of it until here, and honestly it made so much sense to me. I often had counting errors and now, with griding, I havent had any. Saves me a huge headache!

oh and I am a cross country stitcher so that may be why I find it so much easier now!

I was brand new to cross stitching when I joined here and had never heard of gridding. I learned about it and it made so much sense for certain projects! I can't say I never have a counting error when I grid but they are few and far between. It is a pain to grid at the beginning instead of just jumping in but for me, it is well worth it!
