beautiful!!

It's a lovely piece, Serinde! (by the way, is there a reason for the umlaut on the second e?) How are you finding the soie perlee to work buttonhole stitch in? I seem to remember it's quite springy

Is this going to be cut out along the buttonhole edge?

Here's an update -- with the proper soie perlee colour this time. Not a great picture, but you can see the difference, I hope. I've finished all the buttonhole stitch now, and it was like stitching with water. Lovely and smooth, but yes, very twisty thread. I finally squinted at it and realised it was a Z-twist thread, so perhaps if I'd worked right to left rather than my usual left to right, it might have been easier. We'll never know. The trick, I think, with this particular stitch is not to pull it tight, but just to let it sit on the fabric. I'm hoping that a looser tension will discourage any curling edge when it's cut from the fabric.

Mabel, the diacritical mark in the name reminds people to pronounce the "e" (the name has 3 syllables, rather than two). In this case, it's pronounced as a kind of soft 'ey', I'd guess. Part of the plot driver in The Simarillion revolves around changes in spoken language, specifically whether the first letter of that particular name was spoken as an "S" or the older soft "th". But the author was a philologist...

Thanks for the linguistic note, Serinde! Being Dutch I automatically pronounce the final e (which can be silent in English) - as in my own name, Ilke (which many English-speaking people either pronounce with an -ee sound at the end, or spell with an -a). To use a linguistic term, it is in fact a schwa, which is how I've always pronouced the final e of Serinde.

The buttonhole edge looks different but attractive with the tension a bit looser - I'll be very interested to see whether it has any influence on the cutting, or its look when it is cut.

Ah, Z-twists. I hadn't realised it would affect a buttonhole stitch but come to think of it there's quite a lot of twisting going on of course; I tend to think of it only with stem stitch and the like .

Here's a little something, not finished and the photo doesn't do it justice at all. Go to your stash and find DMC 926 and twist it with Kreinik 032 (pearl) blending filament and something magical happens. Who knew? The beads are Mill Hill 03007 (Silver Moon).

As for the Perle stitching...it's incredible. I love it...so detailed!

Here is a Sugar and Lace update. I put it down once the surface stitching and beads were in and before I began the real cutting, as it's more stable this way. No idea when I'll get back to it. And if anyone suggests you needle weave with ＃8 braid metallic, just say no. I've had to really concentrate on something for the EG, and it's not quite working as I'd expected it to. However, in the meantime:

It's quite beautiful as you've left it. Even if you do nothing else the effect is stunning
