Re: Crochet Angel
These are absolutely lovely, Mabel. I like the first angel better with open arms - with arms folded she looks more reserved and reminds me of my mother (a lovely woman, but not one for great, expansive gestures!) while with arms open she seems more like she's proclaiming joy to the world. As for the white angel, she's just gorgeous. Wonky halo and all!

Re: Crochet Angel
Thank you all
-- Agi, I'd love to see a picture of your knitted angels, did you ever photograph them? I thought of using metallics but one of the things I wanted to try with the second angel was to do it all in one go, so there are no thread changes or stop-and-start, it's crocheted from the halo to the hem of the gown in one piece.
Hmmmm -- I wonder if I could somehow crochet in some beads while doing the halo...

I didn't take any photos, but will have to find them - it just will take time.

They are absolutely beautiful, Mabel. I'm thinking about having a go at crochet myself.

Re: Crochet Angel
I'm afraid not -- full of good intentions but disorganised as usual, I really have to finish my mother's St Nicholas shawl and Isobel's Christmas name plate before even thinking about Christmas cards! They may have to be bought ones this year... and the angel with the wonky halo will just become a Christmas tree decoration for ourselves

Re: Crochet Angel
Lol! I know how it is!
I started a christmas card freebie kit from a very old magazine today, but the colours given are nothing like the kit picture. Currently debating whethe to unpick and start with colours of my own, or whether to just foget this one and use the card from the kit for some other design!
I'm kinda thinking I may just buy, too, since I have stuff I'd much rather be sewing.

Re: Crochet Angel
Lovely work, Mabel.
I'm attempting to teach myself to crochet from the 'Stitch 'n Bitch' crochet book - which is American. I've managed a foundation chain and a single crochet row (isn't that double crochet here?), but am finding it rather difficult to make a granny square. Not sure where to put the hook when you crochet into the hole in the middle. Do you pick up loops around the edges inside? Don't know if that makes sense! Any recommendations for any other books would be appreciated. Simple, simple, simple.

Wow, what beautiful work, Mabel! I like the blue one with its arms folded best, I think. The white one is just stunning!

Re: Crochet Angel
Thanks, Sarah!
Genevieve, when you say "the hole in the middle", do you mean the ring of chain stitches you begin with? In that case, I just stick my hook through the ring, i.e. my stitch goes around the chain stitch rather than through it. Hope that helps, and good luck!

Re: Crochet Angel
Hi Mabel,
I've been looking at this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwDkbIg_ ... h_response" target="_blank
She seems to put the yarn round the hook, then into the circle and then she comes up with one extra loop. My attempts definitely don't look like this!
I know it's difficult to say when you can't see what I'm doing, but perhaps you could hazard a guess as to what I'm doing wrong!

Re: Crochet Angel
She does -- take the thread on your hook, then stitck it through the ring, then take up the thread again, and pull back through the ring; you should now have three loops on your hook: the one that the hook is actually sticking through, and the two that you have taken up. Take up the thread again, and pull it through the first two loops on your hook. You now have two loops left. Take up the thread again and pull it through the two remaining loops. You now have just the one loop left, the one the hook is stuck through. Congratulations: you have just finished you first double crochet (or treble, in UK terms) in the ring!

Re: Crochet Angel
Got it, got it!
Thank you Mabel. I'd put the yarn over, inserted it into the ring, but then hadn't realised that the yarn went over the hook again.
On the video it's not obvious that she's done that, but it's pretty obvious when you think about it. Duh!
