If I have a long row of the same colour then I go down one way doing half stitches then come back on myself to cross them, it makes it easier for me and also seems its quicker :thinks:

I do my blocks of color a lot like you do, Lisa. I'll usually stitch a section of one color and then go back and do the other leg of the x.

When it's blocks of single color I do it by one color at a time and stitch by rows. I mark the fabric with a slanting line (just like half stitch) using pencil for those stitches of the same color symbol so I wouldn't have to frequently look at the pattern while working. That way I could stitch blocks of color continuously and faster.

When it requires lots of color changes, confetti stitches, then I xstitch by 10x10 squares.

Looking forward to more update pics from you. Happy stitching!

Most of the time I will cross each stitch as I go sometimes I will do it by rows and sometimes a little bit of both. It will depend on the pattern. All of the ways are correct whichever way we do our stitches. :D

I have a sort of strange way I think. I tend to plot a route (if you can understand what I mean) with my stitches to take me to where I next need to be. So it can mean that I'll do lots of half crosses and then go over them, or it can mean it's the full crosses. It all depends on where I next need to be, after the block or few stitches I'm doing at that time. I seem to always plan ahead.

Woah thats a huge project!! And you've made a great start! :applesauce:

When I'm stitching, I do the same, where I plot a route of a certain colour, do all the //// stitches down that route (I also mark it on the chart with a small dot with my highlighter). And when I work my way back, I complete the xxxx stitches and colour the squares in on my chart :D

Hi everyone! Ok, so I know it's been ages and ages since my first post. So far I have put in (only) about 20 hrs on this project, with very little to show for it still! I stopped working on it because I was waiting for Thread Heaven to go on sale at joann.com, then it finally did and I bought some. But then I started thinking. This piece is mostly dark, so why am I working it on WHITE aida cloth? I went with 18 ct because I wanted to see as little of the fabric as possible on the finished project, but then I picked WHITE!

So I haven't yet invested so much time in this that it would kill me to start over, but I wanted to get a few other opinions on it before I change direction. What do you guys think about working this on BLACK fabric instead? Any pearls of wisdom out there?

Thank you, in advance, for your help and input!!

I guess it depends on the coverage you're getting since the whole area will be stitched anyway. If the coverage is good keep working on it on white. Are you doing 2 threads over 1 or 1 thread over 1. I find on 18ct 2 over 1 gives good coverage. My Twilight Balloon Flight (see link in signature line) is 2 over 1 on 18ct. If your doing 1 over 1 why not just rip it out and start over with 2 over 1?

If you really want to switch to black fabric make sure you have good lighting so you can see the holes. Also so you can see the dark threads already stitched on the dark fabric. (I have that problem with white thread on white fabric, since I haven't used dark fabric yet.)

I'd stick with it if there are any areas done in light coloured thread as it always shows the fabric through. Show us a pic, I bet it is looking great.

I am doing one of my projects on white aida and it has a ton of dark colors and I am not finding it really showing through but I do use 3 strands instead of 2 but I've seen a lot of 2 strands that looks fine also. Do you think it would be difficult to work on black fabric? I guess I can't really give you a straight answer...it would just be a bummer to start over but also a bummer if you aren't liking the coverage either.

Wow, what a lovely picture!

On the fabric, it's up to you, I've never had a problem with pale fabric and dark colours, but if you're not happy it's better to start it over now than when you're half way through.
