My stitching method also varies a little depending on the type/size of it. For instance with smaller items such as cards, or my afghan, I will start in the middle of the item to be stitched and work as much as I can of the first colour, then go onto the next colour and so on.

With a larger design, for instance something that has lots of pages of chart, I start in the top left corner of one page of the chart and work as much as I can within easy reach in one colour and then the colour which starts next to it and so on, but try not to work too far from my starting point until I filled in all the stitches in between, then even though it's a large design I can still begin to see the picture developing.

i start in the middle and work around that for a bit then move downwards and then out. Basically I do a small area at a time, I dont mind changing colour and rethreading ( what is a pako ? ). I also work till i finish the area in my hoop before I move it.

I have a large hoop but find I get arm pain using it so tend to use my medium ones even on large projects.

i have always gone from the centre of a chart and worked outwards stitching in 1 colour then moving on to next ...... but on my first haed project iam doing at the moment i started in top left corner and going left to right to the end then going down a bit like reading ------>
------->
-------->
which feels rather alien but it seems to be working, still do blocks of colour so i dont get lines in the stitching
