Okay, the latest thread was a DMC varigrated one. I've never used these before (even though I've stock up on almost all of them) and I know there are two different ways you can stitch with them. One way is to stitch each square completely before moving to the next one. That is how I stitched this word. The other way is to stitch of row stitches doing one part of the X then come back across the row for the second leg of the X. When I do the next word for this color I will try that method and see what it is like. It's kind of fun experimenting with threads. I did start the Perle Cotton thread on another words but I was having problems so I'll have to :ribbit: the word out and try something else.

Some of the upcoming threads will be light effects and metalics and maybe some more.

This is the project I worked on for our UFO week. I was able to stitch more of the varigrated (one row at a time) and some metallic (the silver) and Light Effect (the jewel tone). The green is just regular cotton thread. I'm not posting an image here because I didn't want to edit each word out to show you. You can click on Pengwenn's Photobucket Mother project to see a full image.

The metallic and Light Effect acted the same way while stitching. I think the Light Effect didn't fray as much as the metallic. I had a problem with the varigrated. I finished off a thread and then cut another which length was entirely dark blue. When I finished that thread and went for more I realized that it would be dark blue as well. So I had to cut yet another length off so I could get some more color variation in the word. "Mum" was stitched one square at a time, "Mutter" was stitched one row at a time. The only time that became an issue was the end of the "E". I had stitch one side with the thread one color and when I was coming back to finish off the stitches the thread was a visibly different color. Up close so you totally see it; far away and it's not noticable so I left it.

Here's the finished piece . . . . finally, after 3 years. I reorganized my Photobuck albums awhile ago so none of the previous pictures are showing up.

Here's a breakdown of the different threads I used and what I thought of them:

tan = linen -- lovely to work with
green = regular DMC -- lovely to work with
red = DMC rayon/silk -- very springy to work with but short lengths are okay just remember to keep a finger on your current stitch until it's finished otherwise the thread loosens up in the stitch and won't lay properly
blue = DMC variegrated -- nice to work with just plan out how you stitch and how you thread your needle. I had to cut extra lengths in a different section of the color so I could see some change in each word.
silver = DMC metallic  even tamed with beeswax it was a pain to stitch and bulky too.

magenta = DMC Light Effect, easier to use than metallics but still had to be tamed. Also it seems thinner than the metallics.
