Oops, the way I'm going this will be getting relegated to UFO status! I intended to stitch one animal every weekend, but then I went camping and then it was UFO Club and so on and so forth.

Anyway, I started on the next couple of animals last night after I ran out of threads for my UFO so I should have another picture tonight or tomorrow. Pig and Cow are the next two animals I'm doing.

I spent my last evening of UFO Club on this and managed to do one more complete animal....

.....and started on the next one (until I discovered one of the shades of pink I needed was missing, but I can finish that another day)....

The threads I ordered arrived yesterday so I'll be able to finish the pig now. YAY! Think I will have a day off my HAED at the weekend and finish the pig and another couple of animals while I'm at it.

What a lovely project, I'm sure it will be treasured.

Can someone tell me though, what happens with the back of afghans - do you line them with soft cotton or something?

I was wondering that, Susan - has anyone finished an afghan and covered the back of the stitched areas or anything like that? I haven't really looked into what to do about that - only worked out the stitching and fringing parts so far!

Anyway, my missing pink has arrived so I decided to finish Piggy tonight.

I've never put anything on the back and they have never come unstitched, even after beening washed.Just make sure all your ends are threaded in well behind your other stitches.

Thank you, Willow, that's good to know. I have actually been taking care to make my backs look as neat as possible and thread the ends in much further and more securely than I normally do, just in case it ended up uncovered!

it's so cute sarah. with things i have made for use, such as tea towels, pot holders, small pictures that i put in thosr frame hoops, baby bib ect...i put iron on fabric on the back to cover the stitching and give it that extra seal so it can survive the wash. I ust the thin one, it is basically the interfacing that dressmakers use.

Lovely animals Sarah. I have done a few afghans and I tend to back them in either satin or cotton to make a kind of unpadded quilt, if that makes sense. :thinks: :thinks:

Mmm, thanks both, I might well back it after all then. I obviously want it to look as neat and tidy as possible on the back so I'd probably rather cover up the back after all. I shall finish stitching it first and then make my mind up.

I've done 3 out of 14 animals so far and then will need to stitch the letters of the baby's name after it's born (6 letters at present unless they change their minds). It's not due until 20 October though and I doubt I'll see them for 2-3 weeks afterwards, so plenty of time to complete this to my satisfaction.
