Just had to say that my cats love the snow...whenever it snows they sit on the windowsills and then try to catch the flakes even though the flakes are outside. It's so funny and they will literally do this for hours! :kitty:

We normally have at least one big snowfall and a lot of smaller ones every winter, but our people are not organized to clean the streets either. And many people cannot drive in the snow. I am said to be a good one, though :) never had any problems, and even on tricky occasions I managed to get the car on the road. :) *knocks on wood quickly*
Even when we had the old Lada. The new car, now, she is just fantastic!
We are expecting some snow, rain and even sleet this week. :(

All of you, take care, drive/travel/walk safely!

We finally had some snow last night. About 2 whole inches. (last year at this time we were up to our knees in it). It seems everywhere else is getting the white stuff (my BF and about a foot and ahalf) but we have lucked out. It was a green Christmas (with rain) this year and I am not complaining in the least. You can all keep yours, I dont want it.

Why not? What's wrong with Stocksbridge?

Slinky wrote:We're forecast snow for teatime today continuing through the night (SW Herts). It's bitterly cold today so I can well imagine that any snow will settle rather than melt on the freezing surfaces outside.

Our cousins from Canada and the northern American states must look upon our continuing fascination/obsession with a few flakes of snow with bemusement. We really don't cope very well with snow at all in this country, do we? I do understand that the relatively few days of snow we get are not worth £thousands in investment needed to clear roads effectively, but nevertheless, to snowier countries, we must seem like complete drama queens!!
I am from the West Coast of Canada (British Columbia, lower mainland) and we don't get a lot of snow either. I 100% agree with you that even though we get a bit of snow, it's not worth the ton of $$$ to have the equipment sitting there so all the snow can be cleared away in a day. It's a good excuse to call in sick/snow day and settle in for a day by the fireplace and a good cross stitch pattern  and have a personal day.

Our snow hasn't gone away since the middle of December, although some did disappear - then it came back again!

I put it down to global warming!!!

At least it isn't as bad as 1959 when we lived on Box Hill in Surrey, and 1979 by which time we were here in lovely Norfolk.

I know that hill, and it's some hill too!! Not a place to live in the snow!!

(There's a great roadsign nearby which is one of the most pointless I've seen. It reads "Beware! Noise survey" I laugh every time. I mean, what's the point of that?!)

Box Hill? Is this the one in Emma by Jane Austen? I have just seen the BBC version...

Well I've had enough of it now. It's changed from being easier to walk than to drive, to now being easier to drive - since the roads are being gritted, but the pavements aren't, and it keeps snowing so it's getting deeper and deeper! Almost a foot in some places where it's blown across!
Plus has anyone else had a HUUUUGGGEE avalanche suddenly slide off their roof??!! Sounds like thunder, thought it was thunder (this was in the middle of the night), went on for quite a few seconds, thought it was some part of the house collapsing, thought it was some kind of scary aeroplane, then saw it coming down out of the window, thought for a second it was REALLY heavy snow, then logic kicked in and realised what it was
Wish I could have a snow day!!

Yes Agi, I think it is -- I immediately thought of that as well when Frank mentioned it :-)!

We've got proper snow now; not a lot of it, I don't think it's aninch yet, but proper fluffy flakes, not the pathetic specks we've been having so far :-)

Proper snow here since yesterday morning.
Hubby and grandson got sent home early from school and college yesterday lunchtime and both closed today.
We had about 4 inches overnight and no sign of anything thawing as yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they are not both home for the rest of the week.
Local ice hockey team supposed to be away at Sheffield tonight - well that isn't going to happen obviously.
Pleased with myself that I went to the bank and the supermarket yesterday as don't need to venture out for anything other than photography now.
