It is naughty! My hoop doesn't have a screw, so I think that's part of why it's so springy. It's a plastic circle with an inside ridge where the separate metal piece goes. You like, squeeze the metal piece so it fits inside the ridge. It's strange. :?
I dunno how well I can explain it, but a q snap is like a frame that has an inside square that you put the fabric over, and then four separate pieces you use to snap the fabric to the frame. I've heard it rumples he fabric less than a hoop and it's more gentle on the stitches.

Mine has two circles but the outer circle has two metal plates sticking out that a screw goes through and you screw the two together to tighten it.

I really should visit hobby craft and have a look at these q-snaps...

Ahhh a tension hoop!! yes these can be quite naughty I was attacked by mine last night, but lucky it just missed my face!! I like to use my tension hoop for small designs. My fab new plastic snap/q snap is the future!! I got mine about 2 weeks ago and its the best thing ever!! Its just awesome! :D

Your stitching is very lovely :applesauce: !! your very brave to pick such a challenging piece.... My 1st attempt was a tiny xmas decoration on plastic canvas!! took ages to do..... even now I have no idea what couching is?!
I'm looking forward to see the finished piece!!

Honestly when I picked the design, I wasn't even thinking about the complexity of it. I just thought it would be easy because all the cross stitching was in a square. Couching is so hard to explain. D: You like... tack the thread in place with a strand of the same color... or something... I've yet to try it.

Couching can also be done with different colours I believe, but yeah. You basically do a loooooooooong stitch (however long the couch is) then you stitch it in place with a basic back stitch sort of thing so it looks like

Or...Google gives a better picture

It's not as scary as it sounds.

Ohhhhhhhhh That makes so much more sense. XD The way they explain it makes no sense. To me at least.

Ahhh I see!! Thanks Angel :) before I wouldn't have even considered doing anything with couching in!! but it looks very simple...... see you learn something new everyday :D

hehe yeah, charts don't always have the most clear instructions, but if anyone remembers back to my Egyptian UFO that had gold couching in it, and because it came in a magazine, there was also a step by step instruction guide to it, I believe. So it stuck in my head.

Egyptian UFO? Sounds intriguing. :P Can you link a picture of it or something?

Also. OW. Curse my hoop! It just exploded and hit me in the thumb.

I never did do the couching I don't think. But it was my second project so I examined the instructions soooooo closely!

the thread I made for it can be found here

It was pretty and I really should take it off the UFO pile...

I'm with you, Angel, on the hoop thing. I KNOW I should always take it off my stitching every night when I go to bed but do I?

I still use the wooden hoop with the screw and like you I find it really difficult to tighten it enough.

:DD I got my q snap 6" by 6". I love it sooo much. But the gold couching on this project has given me hell and I'm getting mad at it. I'm so close to finishing! And I really wanna start my new butterfly project, but I can't leave something so close to being finished.
