This is coming along fantstic, you are doing so well. I think most people start with something smaller and less complicated as it always gives you a boost when you finish something and can stand back and admire it, good for you tackling this :applesauce: :applesauce:

That's not stupid at all - actually it's rather what I think. When I came back to cross stitch after years of needlepoint, I did do a bookmark as a first piece but then immediately jumped into bigger pieces and now the more detailed the better for me. I think most people start with something small because it does require patience and you get the finished product more quickly with something small. You're right though, the bigger picture is just a question of following a bigger chart properly; you just need the reserves of patience to see it through and know that it'll be a while before the finished piece appears.

I learnbt how to stitch when i was younger and did other stitching, long stitch and the ocassional cross stitch but got back into it about 4 years ago now and found I liked the challenge of more detail...but i do go back to quick and easy stuff evry now and then for relaxation and when i have little concentration for doing big stuff.

I am very impressed scott :applesauce:

You're absolutely right that a five foot square cross stitch project is no different from a two inch square one except in size, and so it shouldn't matter what you start with, but I think generally people get something smaller as a first project because if you do make mistakes (and thinking back to my first project, I certainly did!) it's not so bad if it's a small bookmark, rather than a very big picture :-)!

Wow this is really great!!

As for it all just being how to read a chart, well I think that is mostly true but the Dimension Gold kits tend to be more involved with specialty stitches and backstitches. Although it may not seem too difficult, it is way more complicated than some designs. So kudos to you for attempting something more difficult. Looks like you are doing quite well with it! :applesauce: :applesauce:

:applesauce: :applesauce: This looks fabulous!! Great job for your first project!! I would tend to agree with others who have posted that as a beginner, I was more attracted to smaller, less intimidating projects, but you seem to be doing a wonderful job at this, so whatever works for you!!!!
