I love the way the splashes of water go over the border, it really brings it alive. Fantastic. How many French knots have you got to do?
Dunno - didn't dare count - but a LOT!

Thanks for all the lovely comments, everyone. Here are the latest updates:

Image

I attempted some of the french knots... :( They are not very good, but I find 'em impossible to take out once they are done. I tried!

Image

And this is a closer but foggier view of the knots. I realised, after a while, that doing 2 loops round the needle was wrong; I should only have done 1 loop cos of using 5 threads... Anyway, there are now about 3 knots with only 1 loop, the rest have 2  They look more like beading!

Sorry it's not a very good pic - and you can also see the big holes in the aida where I had to :anotherfrog: I hope they will ease out when I wash it... There are actually quite a few places in that 'splash' that I SHOULD have frogged and didn't, because of not wanting to make more big holes where they couldn't be covered by stitching. Meh...

:applesauce: Its beautiful. The French knots look great. If you hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have noticed. I am sure that when you wash it, all the holes will go back to their normal size. Are there a lot more to do? You can decide how many loops you want with the rest of them. Doesn't matter what the chart says, only matters what you like.

I do a lot of french knots because I hate beads. I remember doing a Mirabella mermaid I think (did an afghan with dolphins, and orcas and mermaids for a GD) that was supposed to have lots and lots of beads. and I did French knots instead. I think that was the first time I didn't follow the chart completely and realized that all that matters is if I like it.

  Fantastic!!! As for the french knots, they look just fine, in fact I'd be tempted to change them up so that they weren't all the same size. Maybe do some using two strands and wrap around the needle twice, etc, just so that they'd look like different size water splashes--if that makes sense :D

That makes a LOT of sense! I was thinking about snipping off the big ones, and picking out the threads behind - but those big ones are right at the forward edge of the water and WOULD look bigger, wouldn't they? :thinks: Definitely food for thought! Thanks! :D

You're doing really well with this. :applesauce: You'll be an expert at doing French Knots by the time you finish this. :D

I'm with Karen on this one, I think the different sizes only help to make the whole thing look more realistic -- you're doing great!

I honestly can't see anything wrong with your French knots, and anyway droplets of water are different sizes so your different-sized knots are actually more realistic. :applesauce:

As for not frogging the splash, no one's going to notice if a few stitches are out of place - that'll be your little secret!

I think it's gorgeous.

Oh, wow!! He is just gorgeous!! Beautiful stitching ... and French knots!! :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

Dread to think the state our sofa would be in if we had him using it as a scratching post and not our three 'little ones'!!

Great French knots :applesauce: I did not do that many, the french knot knack still eludes me after all these years. Your Tiger's splash pattern looks great to me.

Fljotsdale, I discovered far too late to attempt any frogging that I had missed a row somewhere on the right side as you look at the design below the back leg, running to the last splash on that side  I decided to start stitching from the bottom of that side upwards..very carefully..to make sure every thing matched up,up to my mistake and then I tried to match the colours to mend my error. It is there, but even I can't see it now :)

And, although I hate french knots, yes, I'm sure I'll be pretty good at 'em by the time I've finished! Just think - I'll never be afraid of french knots ever again!

I think your French knots look fine, and as mentioned it's better to not have them all the same size, gives it a real life randomness. :)
