Arianwen,

Glad you have a small noisy addition to the family. What better reason to want more needles for new jobs?

My Dad is now back to his best. I think he has his ups and downs, with the downs slowly getting deeper and more serious. He's 93, 20 years older than the previous oldest man in the family. It's just a matter of time.

We're hoping for some cooler times tonight - there's a thunderstorm warning for Kent tonight, but the prediction is that we'll miss most of them. However, it may clear the air.

Regards,

Richard

Thanks Mabel - my searches took me straight to the bulk pages so I've found the packs of 25 and added them to my list.

Richard - I'm so glad to hear your dad is doing better - at least for now!

we are due thunderstorms here too tomorrow I think - thank goodness - and typical! right as I am going back to work on a late shift so will need to be out in it locking up the site! ah well its only a bit of rain!

Sounds like a bargain. I was paying £9 per 100 on Fleabay but it went up to £12.95. I might buy myself another 1K of size 28 :thinks: can't have too many some of my pieces need nearly 100 needles on the go  .

I don't like the finish on the inside of the eyes on Bohin (I found they were fraying my threads) so the few packets I have of those are gathering cobwebs.

I can recommend Aircon when it is hot: I am sitting here at a very pleasant 19 degrees C and it is over 30 outside. I have not had to run it over night as the house remains cool enough to sleep and I open it up in the morning to gather the morning "chill"

I just went to buy some more of the wonderful John James size 28 Tapestry Petites to find no one seems to stock them any more. I have Emailed John James directly as they have petites on their website but are only showing the size 22, to ask if they are still doing the 28s.

In the meantime does anyone know of any stores with stocks of size 28? I am down to my last packet

I only use the size 22 petites (for several of my kits) so I never checked whether they did them in any other sizes - I'll see if any of my usual suppliers have any!

Hmm, Lakeside only do 24s and Marie's Cross Stitch 22s. I did find this Etsy seller who advertises all sizes but shows 26 and 28 as out of stock - perhaps you could contact her to ask?

And there is this seller who has all sizes in petites though not John James

Thanks Mabel, The £15 postage costs from USA is rather a killer for buying from the Etsy seller. This is a problem with Etsy there are a lot of sellers from over the pond it puts me off using it as there is no indication of where the seller is until you have fallen in love with an item, put it in your basket and then the postage  .

John James have Emailed me back to confirm that they have discontinued all of the petite tapestry needles and the few remaining size 22 is all they have left.

I wonder how easy it would be to cut down standard needles :thinks:

I've tried cutting down standard needles and that is easy enough to do.

In the meantime I have found some "Big Eyed Quilting" needles and ordered 40 of #10 and 24 of the #11. These are the same diameter as a 28 tapestry with a slightly elongated eye one is 1" long and the other 7/8". I'll see how I get on with them

I have just placed an order directly with John James for a box of 28s and some more (4 packets) of the Big eyed quilters. If you are placing your first order with John James their needle guide offers a 25% discount if you enter NeedlesGuide25 at the checkout  with a maximum of £20 off :D

I bought a pack of 25 Bohin needles because I loved the brand and it was way cheaper to buy the little bulk pack. I found that the eyes in the bulk pack were rough. Don’t know why because I’d never had an issue before. My new favorite is Piecemakers.

I love Prym needles, although I've mainly used their (sharp) embroidery needles rather than their tapestry needles.

The #10 big eye quilting needles feel slightly finer than the Petites (Quilting above, petite tapestry below):

They are the same diameter. I am experimenting with using one to put in some of the backstitching to see how much I like it.

I have some and I like them but not the price, especially when I work with 100 threaded needles for some of my pieces.

The company that I brought my last lot of JJ Tapestry petites has just got back to me. I have brought all their remaining size 28s  but she has 6 packets of size 26 left : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/145171539297
