Apart from the "kinks" you can get when winding a bobbin, what are the advantages of these? (Asking for a friend.)

I don't mind winding cottons and even silks, but perles and wools are too bulky so I prefer something like this. Also, you can easily pull a single thread from the drop/keeper/perforated card without having to take the whole lot off :-)

I can see the advantages for pearls, etc. I tend to keep them on their original branded cardboard, having "de-skeined" them, and stored in a long plastic box. I can then pull off one strand at a time. But these little things are cute and useful.

I would check if you may need it first: You could use it to support the other end of really large frames with the second or have one upstairs and another downstairs or for use in the garden in the summer :thinks:

Jo

P.S I have two  and both are currently in use

Karen, it's a Taotronics LED floor lamp. I did buy it on Amazon but it's no longer available but maybe try their website? I highly recommend it, it is the perfect height for me and has three brightness levels and three light colours :)

My SIL & I went to see Immersive Van Gogh. It was amazing. We stayed and watched it three times. A few days ago she popped up to my place and gave me this kit.

I'm feeling a bit cheated this morning :x My friend has for a long time been on about me doing him a cross stitch of a Vincent Motorcycle. I know that Heritage Classics do the chart but I have been waiting for a full kit. Yesterday I spotted one on Fleabay for £10 and brought it for 'him'. This morning on closer inspection of the photos I note it says pack contains 'Chart and instructions' with no signs of fabric or threads :tantrum:

Hopefully my delivery from Very Crafty will turn up shortly which will make me feel better. :)

Jo
