Sally, I have to stitch one more leaf and the lower part of the stem. I am really sorry I managed not to see waratahs in reality.

The details on the flowers are wonderful. The colours and the details show really well on the cream fabric.
Lovely update!

The waratahs are now washed and out on the balcony to dry. Tomorrow will iron and photograph it.

Washed, ironed, spread on the washing machine. That rare case when the finish is for my own dear self. In reality the fabric is a colour of coffee with milk.

For the first time in my stitching practice, the colour of the fabric matters more than the design. I spread the table runner on the washing machine, as was planned, and it made the whole bathroom look gloomy. I now took it off and decided that tomorrow I am starting on the corners, so that the thing would look brighter(the less fabric is seen, the better). Next time I will know better than buying a coffee-with-milk Aida. It looks like an old sack for potato. While it was just fabric, it was fine, but the flowers made the fabric look much darker, if you see what I mean. The play of colours. In a word, the table runner will be all stitching and then will be on my shelf where the threads storage boxes stand. So much about experiments with colours of fabric.

But without experimenting you can't always know what will look right.

That design is absolutely stunning and fair leaps out of the picture at you. It will look wonderful where ever you will display it and I am delighted that for once it is for you. Too often we give our stitching away and don't keep some back to enjoy for ourselves. :whoop: :whoop: :whoop: :whoop: :whoop:

You are being very hard on yourself, Lyudmila! I think that the coffee with milk Aida complements the design well because the colours of the design are more soft, pastel like. A white fabric might have been too bright for the design.
It is a beautifully stitched table runner of a delicate design, in my humble opinion. :applesauce: :applesauce:

I agree with Hélène. I like antique white or cream if I'm not using a coloured fabric. I think white is too stark for some designs.

Those waratahs are simply beautiful! :applesauce: :applesauce: Well done!

I agree with Poppy and Wendy about the fabric. I almost never use pure white unless I'm stitching an HAED or something similar where the fabric is never part of the design. I prefer the ecru, or antique white or cream colors if the fabric isn't a soft color. I gave up dark fabrics years ago because it was just way too hard on my eyes.

Last night's finish was one of these. The lady who got it was so happy that it paid me for all the stitching in the poor light(cant wait to see my elecrician at the weekend).
Now the waratahs will have corners with Australian wild flowers in them.

I can imagine how happy the recipient of your wonderful Jacobean table runner was. What a generous and wonderful present!
How long in total did it take you to stitch it? It seems so quick to me.
Well done once again, Lyudmila! :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:
