I for one am having trouble with my main computer (with the printer) so I probably won't be able to download the instructions until next week (new video card has been ordered), so don't panic on my account. :p

Sorry to hear about the computer trouble, Laura!

The panic isn't too bad -- I've got all the photographs I need for both October blogs, but I do still need to do the writing and I had a meeting tonight, so don't expect an email very early in the morning....

Glad you like it Carole! The ribbon rose works fine in whatever colour, but of course you can choose really rose-y colours to be naturalistic.

Little sneak peek for those who haven't got access to the blog, here is mine using hand-dyed ribbon -- I had to make it a bit tighter than usual because I wanted to get the red in and the ribbon didn't change colour as quickly as I'd hoped!

Just read the blog and am waiting email password to download.
 the roses then panicked wondering if I had ribbon.
Out came the ribbon stash bag, mainly oddments from chocolate boxes (not THAT many) and gifts.
YES !! I have some pale pink that came in my Oops bags so thank you to Dinky Dyes, although some hand dyed would be better.
A Halloween theme this month with black and orange was in my mind but the roses are MUCH better.
Can't wait to get started on another beautiful design, thank you Mabel.

Someone else asked whether December would have a Christmas theme -- no it won't. The months were really only a convenient name peg to hang 12 designs from :-) so none of them were meant to represent the month whose name they bear.

But of course you could easily do this one in black on orange fabric (like Eek!); you could use black Caron Snow and black Petite Treasure Braid to add some glitter, and have black roses. It might look rather striking!

Gorgeously beautiful as always Mabel and I can think of several possible colour ways to use.

Not sure about the ribbon as I never used it so I am almost certain I don't have any on hand. Guess I will have to head to a local shop and see if they have any. I do have miles of satin ribbon but am I right in my thinking that embroidery ribbon is different from 'ordinary/satin' ribbons???

Some ribbon embroidery an be done with satin ribbon without any problem; anything which is worked completely at the front of the fabric, such as gathered stitch, for example.

However, satin ribbon is quite stiff, and rather difficult to pull through fabric, so any ribbon stitch that requires taking the needle with the ribbon through the fabric would be awkward. For those stitches, silk or sheer/organza ribbon is a better choice.

Silk ribbon is not readily available from most haberdashers, I think, but sheer ribbon shouldn't be difficult to find -- you can see what it looks like here (even in black for Louise's black on orange version :-)), and here is a piece I did some time ago using sheer ribbon (and some satin ribbon):

October's design will be fun to stitch. I've been waiting for Stashmas to order a whole lot of stuff, so now I'll be able to catch up... perhaps even before December!

It would make a very convincing rose... :-)

What sort of ribbon did you get?

Just been looking - not buying, honest - at Gloriana ribbon on Sew and So and was spoilt for choice. Lots of 'rose' colours.
The Lucky Old Sun you've chosen is a great one to go with your signature blue and yellow theme Wendy, can't wait to see that. :applesauce:
Sounds like you got the same pale pink as me in your Oops bag.

I enjoyed stitching October and I learnt a third way of doing spiderweb roses.
