My dad's fruit cake!!!!!!




Who did you spend most of your time with your mom or your dad.

When I was younger I spent more time with my Dad, he was wonderful and we had alot of fun together, but I've always been close to both my parents.
Now I only have my mum and I see her most days or phone her or chat to her online.



Do you have a mobile phone and if yes, which one?

I do its a nokia but about 7 years old and surprise it is just a phone.


Do you read newspapers, listen to the news, do both or none.

I don't get newspapers and i don't listen to the news. I do read bits of the news online here and there.


Natural yogurt or fruit yogurt?

I prefer vanilla yogurt.. and then if I feel risky I'll add my own thing

What is to your immediate left right now?

Hungarolingua - a pack of language books and cds that I need to take with me for my evening lesson - I teach Hungarian to a French girl. And the key to the classroom - last time i forgot and had to disturb my colleage's lesson to ask her to let us in. So I put them right here on my desk so as not to forget again.

What is your favourite family photograph?

(Can I tell you about mine? It's my grandparents, all their children in a line, my father as the eldest of 5, and my mum, too - pregnant. SO I am in the picture, too )

The picture of our family that we took just 2 years ago it is so fun to look at it hanging on the wall and remember how the day had gone and to see there faces. It was a very fun day and we all had a blast with the pictures.


Are you superstitious ?

Nope, not at all.

What did you, will you or would you do on your 10th Anniversary? (Ours is coming up and I need ideas.)

Can't remember what we did (it was 17 years ago) but as our Anniversary is the 30th April it generally (well mostly) coincides with May Day Bank Holiday.....so we always go camping.


Do you fly or drive or use other transport to your holiday destination ? (We drive to France most years)

Usually drive as it is the cheapest unless we are on a very tight schedule.



Do you get motion sick when traveling?

I don't but my daughter has ever since she was little. Poor thing it is so miserable, windy roads have to be traveled with care.

Used to as a child. I was banned from school trips because I was sick before we crossed town. I'm fine now, we drive for two days solid to get to our holiday destination (and get the ferry too).



Seaside or countryside ??

Countryside!
I live right by the sea here and although I love the sea and all it's moods, I can see advantages to being in the countryside instead of here.

Can you speak more than one language and if so which is your favourite one and why?

Yes, I speak English and Russian, and learnt FInnish and German and Italian, but I would need some practice before I could say anything in those. I do understand a bit though.

My favourite is English, of course, I hate watching films dubbed (they always do that here), and I also hate reading English books translated... There are so many bad translations (since I translate sometimes, I tend to read everything looking for mistakes ) I have to admit I love British English pronunciation, although it is not popular with my students, they find it funny, and like American - because they always watch American films.
I love Russian, too, but haven't used it for a while. Sometimes watch Russian tv and enjoy it a lot.
When I retire (if I live that long) I will learn at least five more languages. it will be my hobby.

Do you think young people nowadays are much worse than the former generations? Every generation says so.

That's a difficult one. They certainly don't seem to adhere to the same manners that I was brought up with and their ambitions seem to be focussed around fame and celebrity, which was much less the case when I was growing up. Whether that makes them worse or not, I'm not sure. I think there are things that we can regret that we seem to have lost such as a strong code of manners, respect for elder people, valuing education over transient television fame, correct use of language etc but equally there are some very talented youngsters out there who have acquired some different skills and who create things in new media that we should value.

Ok that's a little too much thinking for this time in the morning Back to something far more mundane!

Do you grow any of your own food and if so what?

Only herbs, I'm afraid -- rosemary, chives and lemon thyme.

in the car, do you have the radio/CD/tapes on or not? (DH and the children usually want something on, I prefer just to chat or sit in companionable silence -- and am getting DH round to that point of view-- but am outvoted if all three men are in the car with me)

In the car I only listen to CD's. Occasionally I like silence especially if DH is in the car with me, but if I'm alone, I almost always have a CD playing.

Are you looking forward to snow, or dreading it?

I look forward to it if I don't have to drive in it. But if it comes and I have to go to work its a nightmare. We don't have snow often enough or it doesn't stay around long enough for people to get used to driving init ot onit.


Do you go and play in the snow or just look out at it. (I like to build snowmen if enough of it or go for a walk)

Play in it! (when it's around). Though I do like to see it completely untouched as it's so pretty then.

What period of historical clothing do you like most? I love the wide skirts and narrow waists of the 1840s!

This is a hard one!! I love the 1880's as a time period but for costume I might have to go with the Tudors - those distinctive fitted dresses with lots of layers & tapering sleeves. I read that in the 1300's-1500's the climate even in England was a lot colder then which was why they always seemed to be wearing lots of layers!
