Daughter has gone through the 2 year course of traditional Ukrainian embroidery(more than 200 kinds of stitches, history of folk clothes, restoration, and so on) and was the best in her group. So she can teach me more than I could teach her. Son and Son-in-Law were taught a few lessons of cross stitch at school. So no need to teach, at the "level of survival" (there is such a level in studying foreign languages) they both can cross stitch. But none would be bothered with stitching. After that course my daughter has lost all the interest in cross stitch. When she finishes the rukavyanka

blouse she is working on, I will show you a picture. Each stitch there looks like a small pattern in itself (in the photo on the right- the left shirt, and more such shirts on other photos. Rukavyanka's other name is chervonyanka, as it has sleeves stitched in special stitches only of red colours). So good old cross stitch is only my sphere.

You can see why these pieces of clothing were made for special occasions -- the stitching is so complex and utterly beautiful.

Touch wood, Wendy. It would have been even faster, if my back did not hurt. I cant believe I used to stitch for hours and hours in one go. Now it is a stand up every half an hour, stretching, some simple exercise to stop the ache. And of all things I left behind I am missing my good old arm chair for stitching. Anyway, now off to the Western hemisphere. Then the frame. Not this week, but maybe the next one will see the finish.
By the way, there is no such word in Latin as Ferniopicus. I guess they meant Aethiopian. But Janlynn wrote so, I copied honestly, then it began to nag me, I looked up in the dictionary, no such word, but will be correcting at the very end, if at all.

I looked at the map online, and it should, indeed, be Æthiopicus. That "AE" letter printed in that way could have looked like an "F", I guess.

The photo will be ASAP, but I need to boast right now. I have just finished the second hemisphere- backstitch and all. If things go right, the moment I take out the needle from this project after finishing it, I will start the twin of this map. Cant tell you what a pleasure is it to work on it. Even the BS this time did not feel as a burden. Designers are like teachers. One can turn the process into a disaster and torture, another achieves an excellent result without additional sufferings. I did not notice how time flew away and the finish is now the matter of days. The ode to Janlynn over. Off to the S&G to have :tea:

Boast away!!! I think you have every right to feel proud of yourself. Especially with the amount of backstitch required for this beautiful design! The enjoyment you have had in stitching this shines through in your posts as well as in the speed and perfection of your stitching! I'll meet you in the S&G and join you, if you don't mind, in your :tea: and will provide some extra tidbits to go with it.

Thank you, Carole(I still remember who was the first to welcome me on this Forum!). I was stitching all day yesterday. Now the "frame" to stitch and backstitch. Then some beads. I cant believe I am nearly there with this design.

Wowzier! This is fabulous. You have every right to boast, especially correcting the mapping place name error (I think I spy?). :applesauce: May I suggest a bit of cake with that coffee?

Thank you, Serinde, for your "rescue operation" with that place name. Now whenever I look at this map, I will remember how we were correcting the designers themselves. :D

One guy asked me the other day why I give them stitched birthday presents. I explained that out of selfishenss alone- even if they all wanted to forget me, they will not. I cant imagine anybody throwing away an Easter towel or a table runner, let alone a picture like Janlynn's "Fisherman's Dream Window" or "Tropical Vacation Window", not to mention this map.

You are not the only one to be amazed at the speed of stitching this fabulous design. Totally AWESOME and AMAZING. Did your needle need to be cooled down in a glass of water????

It's taken me a while to catch up on everything.
I did a search as I thought that this wonderful map could have almost reached completion.
I am amazed that it has!

WOW! just perfect. :applesauce:
