Re: Two special little girls. *UPDATE 6th Jan 2010*

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

The eyes are quite clear, yes they are dark-on-dark but that's the way the dog is in the picture! And you can definitely see both of them -- I wouldn't worry, especially as it's likely to be even more clear in real life than on the picture! Also, are you taking your distance (literally, I mean :-)) when you look at it? What may look like just a blob of black and dark when you're working on it and looking at it close-up, can sometimes resolve into something quite detailed when you look at it from the distance that most people are going to be seeing it at (i.e. at least a few feet!)

Ok, now I'm really not happy with it.
The sort of tan/gingery bit above Sophies eye that looks like eyebrow ... it's dark red/grape threads!
It doesn't look right at all.

Normally I'd agree with you, but this is just too far out to ever work. I'll show a couple of pictures.

Remember too that the bottem half of her face would also be that colour!

Yeah, that'd probably my best option. All is not yet lost! :)
There's quite a few colours in there believe it or not, so I'll get them out and then choose colours to substitute each and HOPE I can do it ok by eye.

You can see even the staffy is redder than she is in real life, but not enough to bother me. I was quite happy with her, but no way can I have the cavvie that colour!

I think I'll put this aside now though for a few days and then I can try to match it up better. Haven't quite got the heart for it at the moment. :ratherbe:

It's looking wonderful so far, TB, I can definitely see the eye fine and I think when you've completed her face it'll work. It's a shame the red colour is so RED though. I hope you can work out a better shade by picking some more natural colours to blend.

I can see the eye fine, as for the redness, seems to me that the whole picture is a little more 'red' than the original overall.... so I would still have faith and not worry!

Oh TB that is a real shame.
This was looking so amazingly lifelike so it seems really strange that the colours should be so wrong. Don't lose heart though coz I'm sure you will be able to sort it. Those gorgeous girls deserve it.

i would try toning the red down by using a brown gold or orange gold with it, one strand of each. It's one of those things best done on scraps of fabric, I tried a few variations of a similar thing for a picture I was doing that looked very odd with the colours suggested.

BTW, I am refering to the little dog not the big dog. I dont know breeds just three kinds of dogs, little, medium and big dogs

As you said the whole picture is a little redder than the original, but the eyebrow really seems to be quite, erm, bright!

I was thinking, perhaps you could check what colours are used for the other bits of tan in the Cavalier? If they're different from these reds, and closer to what you'd expect, then you could use some of those (blended if necessary) for the eyebrow.

I agree that is way to red to look real. Good luck with the blending and changing of colors.
