:kitty: :puppy: :bunny: My cat wouldn't let me.......but I wouldn't anyway except I would put a coat on a dog if it was snowing or raining.

Which 'soap' do you follow ? ( I admit to Emmerdale - don't suppose you get it anywhere other than the UK- it's set in a small village in Yorkshire for those who haven't hear of it)

I don't watch daytime soaps. I have however watched Ballykissangel re-runs twice through. And I have Monarch of the Glen in my Netflix queue.

What was the oddest present you've ever received?

My grandma bought me a matching pants adn shirt. Up the pant leg, across the stomach and over the shoulder was a giraffe. It was so odd it was not a comic design but it also was not a real life n either it was some place in between and the part that went across the stomach was so weird shaped it made me look pregnant. I was 10 years old at the time. Only wore it once to grandma's house then it went to St Vicent DePaul. Don't know if anyone would ever buy it.

Not one.

I don't watch much TV since my ex moved away, when I do, I use the computer which has a TV-tuner card set in. Not a big screen, and the computer is a bit noisy, but good enough for my once-or-twice-a-week sessions. :)

Have you ever got offended by a present you received?
(Interestingly, we have so many questions concerning presents these days, don't we? - Is it perhaps becasue Christmas is getting near???)

Offended is quite strong, I'm not sure that it was really offended as such but I was deeply disappointed by the leaving present I got from my last team. This makes me sound so ungrateful and I did appreciate that they'd thought to get me a present, the problem was that after 3 1/2 years in the team, numerous lunches, orientation trips, training courses, gossip sessions etc they apparently knew nothing about me at all! What they got me was an outdoor lantern to put in the garden with a candle in it and a bottle of pimms. The alcohol was fair enough, though I do think this is a bit of a cop out and an easy thing to get for anyone you know who does drink. The lantern and candle thing though? I've always said to them that I garden because I have a garden, not because I'm a fanatical gardener - if I had the money I'd employ someone to do it for me rather than do it myself! I've also said and shown them a number of times my major hobby (cross stitch of course) and we've talked between us about jewellery lots and about cooking lots which I also like doing. For them then to go and get me something garden related is really beyond belief - how on earth did they not know me at all after all the talking we'd done? I'd have preferred vouchers over that. I've never told them of course but I went straight away and returned it to the shop (john lewis fortunately) and have spent the money on a nice cross stitch book and some threads - much better all round!

What stitchy things have you put on your Christmas list this year?

Poor Lessa, you would really expect them to know you better after all that time!

As I come from a non-present-givig tradition myself, and the grown-ups in DH's family have decided it all got out of hand rather, we only do presents for the children, and usually the children get us something small, so I've suggested plastic bobbins and needles :-)

Are there any photographs in your place of work (and in you are a stay-at-home-mum that is whichever room you do most work in), and f so, what of?

The two photographs that are in my sight line at the office were taken in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. It's a chain of lakes along the MN and Canadian border. Motorized vehicles (boats or cars) are not allowed on most of the lakes and surrounding area. It is a fantastic hiking/ camping/ canoing area. So peaceful and quiet.

One image is of a red canoe on a calm lake against a grey rock cliff. The other is of a small stream with moss covered rocks and pine trees.

For those in the US... It's 4AM Friday morning... where are you?

I'm ok shopping in various stores... Like AC Moore and Walmart pretty much.. but other stores make me uneasy lol.. Grocery shopping on base is the WORST! My husband just tried to convince me to do a complete grocery shopping run just because he ran out of mayonnaise... was NOT going to happen!

Never heard of offal, so no.

Do you eat fruit cake? (Most here loath it, but I bet they've never had the real thing, freshly baked).

Yes! Many of them do. And the people are lined up ready to make a bee line to the stuff they want as soon as the doors are unlocked. It's crazy. They scout out the stores ahead of time, so they know right where to go.

Last year, the police had to close the parking lot at one of the malls, they wouldn't let anyone else in and traffic was backed up for miles around it.

Back home (Netherlands) we don't do fruit cake like that, but my MIL bakes them and I really like them!

(by the way, offal is organ meat like liver, kidneys, heart and so on. I don't like it...)

When you go to a restaurant, do you go for something you know or do you try new things?

Hubby says I'm not very adventurus and stick to things I like. But I have very strange taste, I love rabbit, liver and venison and will always pick one of those. I don't like raw meat at all, tomotoes are out for medical reasons and I just cannot eat pasta, my throat closes up and I am left trying to chew and swallow it.(don't class rice as pasta). So apart from my dislikes I'm up for trying different things.

What fish do you prefer smoked or plain.

I think salmon and trout are the ones I like best. Salmon I eat what ever way it comes but I like my trout plain.

Brandy butter!!!!! Not the healthiest but so yummy as it melts on hot christmas pudding    I made my pud last weekend and can't wait till christmas now to try it. :D

When do you open presents on Christmas day? I think I must be in the oddest family - we don't open ours until after lunch and the Queen's speech (about 3:10pm). It was torture when I was young, but I quite enjoy it now as you get so much more anticipation from seeing the presents there for so long.

In the past we have opened presents after lunch, but this year depending if we have granddaughter may be different. But I must say I prefer to open them after lunch, then I can relax and enjoy the moment, instead of jumping up every five minutes to go and check on something.

Do you have a snack or another proper meal after your christmas dinner (assuming you eat christmas dinner at lunch time). We just usually have a sandwich and a mince pie.

Because of my mother's diabetes we can't do anything too out of the ordinary with meal routines, so we'll probably have a light lunch, then Christmas dinner in the evening.

If you have a Christmas tree, how is it decorated?

(back home before I was married our Christmas tree was always decorated almost solely in silver and white -- then I came to England and the Colourful Tree with baubles and ornaments of all shapes and sizes and especially Colours!!!!)

We don't always get a Christmas tree (a live one). I have three little artificial ones on the hearth...2', 3' and 4'. They are decorated with mini ornaments that are rustic in design...lots of woodland animals, songbirds...etc. When we do buy a large tree, we get it from the local firehouse and I have collected so many decorations of the years, it is different each time. Sometimes all blue and silver, or purple and gold, or red, white & green.

Do you have any unusual Christmas traditions? We celebrate Christmas on Christmas EVE with dh's family, then we have a BIG Christmas Breakfast at my sister's and open presents after breakfast with her family. Then go back to dh's family for the evening. Then back to my sister's on Boxing Day to have a big turkey dinner complete with crackers.

Not really Christmas day but on Christmas Eve we open ONE and only one gift from under the tree. Sometimes this can be very funny as I wrap silly/weird stuff and it used to just bug the heck out of my son but know he loves it. (example: one time he open a blank CD case..... it is a long story but for me it was hilarious/ for him not so much) Then once we have done that we have a very light supper and start watching all of the different Christmas Carol Movies we have 4. The Muppets Christmas Carol, Disney Christmas Carol, Scrooged with Bill Murray and a more modern version and end it off with the George C Scott most wonderful Christmas Carol ever made. I have been looking for a cartoon version I used to see as a kid but have not found it anywhere. Usually end up going to bed around 1 am when the last one finishes.

When do you put up your Christmas decorations?

I always put them up the day after Thanksgiving and they come down the day after Christmas as my son's birthday is on the 28th and I always wanted him to have his own day and not decorated as if it was still part of Christmas.
