Well I have started a little bit of Wildflowers (really not enough to post - it's just a red patch at the moment!

) and I have been distracted by a different project - not a new start but one I had on hold which I now intend on finishing - the Vermillion
I decided that I would try adding a snowflake border (thanks Rose for the suggestion) before I decided whether I would do 9 or 10

(if the border worked it would have to be 9) so came up with a design that combined a few different snowflakes from free patterns I had found and then mucked around with a few different sample threads on an unseen corner to work out what I wanted to use for it.
What I tried:
Rainbow Gallery Petite Treasure Braid White Pearl PB10 - didn't stand out on the white fabric
DMC Metallics E747 (1 & 2 strands) - not enough/too much coverage
Kreinik Blending Filament 094 Star Blue (2 strands) - liked it
Kreinik Blending Filament 001 Silver (2 strands) - liked it but felt it would overshadow the snowmen
So what did I go with?
Well as the border was a combination of a small pattern with a larger snowflake in each corner and at the third marks, I went with the silver bf for the larger snowflakes and blue bf for the rest. I spent most of Sunday afternoon/evening and last night as well working on the border and am quite happy at how it has come out so far even though still I have to

the last section of blue on the right side as I missed out 1 stitch (totally throws out the symmetry of the border) and also the two right silver snowflakes on the bottom border as they have little bits sticking out and they looky messy.

I know that I am going to stitch the Witch and the Blue Snowman but I have to decide on what the 3rd one will be - Indian or Cowboy?

I'm leaning towards the Indian he seems to match in better (and he will also be easier that all the backstitch tassles on the cowboy!

)
Well thats the end of this massive post!

What a great sampler! I like the border! I personally like the Indian better than the cowboy.

The border is a great addition, it really finishes the thing of beautifully -- and I love the way you've experimented with all those different threads to find just the right ones!

Arrggggghhh! I must have hit the wrong button when trying to post here earlier this morning so I will try again!
When I hit the 25% mark on my HAED I decided to put it aside for a few days and do another of the Vermillion snowpeople. Although the bottom right hand corner should have been the next one to do I decided to leave it until the other 2 were finished as I still haven't really decided which one I will do (although the Indian is looking more likely) so I did the Blue Snowman.

I was sooooo annoyed with it though - there's a problem with the pattern. There is one symbol for 2 colours! There is an 'n' symbol for 822 (cream in the jacket trim) and 892 (crimson in the candy cane) and I only noticed this once I had gone through and stitched all the stitches in cream. I really didn't want to

(its hard to do on 25ct) so being lazy I just stitched the crimson over the cream (luckily I had stitched the lighter colour!)
I am loving the border but am not sure about the 4 isolated snowflakes in between the snowpeople. I am thinking that I might have to link them with the border (maybe with just backstitch) so that each snowperson is in their own little square. But I don't think that I will decide that until I have stitched the other 2.

I am always stitching on top, but only if its darker on the lighter colour, if it lighter on the darker than i frog so it doesnt show through lol.

looks cute! i noticed that on the pattern too! i hate when they do that!
and I had to stitch over top on my dragon castle..not paying attention there are two symbols..right next to each other on the pattern..
one is // and the other is \\ and they are like right next to each other in the design!

I hate that when they make the symbols so close. There are so many different symbols out there they can make them different. I have two patterns that have that problem right now I am marking one of the symbols with a highlighter to help make it obvious so it doesn't become a problem.

Lovely! I do like the snowflakes, it does create the illusion of being separated, but without them being isolated, if you get what I mean

for your progress and solving the "double symbol" problem -- don't you just hate it when they get things lke that wrong?
Looking forward to seeing what you're going to decide about the border!
