I've decided not to do the border and the green backstitching around the feathers, let me know what you think

Back stitching does give emphasis to that part and would certainly cause the feathers to stand out more. I think it depends on whether you want to highlight the peacock or the lovely lady.
I see your "feline helper" is guarding your lovely work.

She is lovely. I don't think it needs the border. And only needs the backstitch, if as Sally said, you want to highlight the feathers. Often the backstitch is needed to make a design clearer or parts more distinct. this one doesn't need it. I don't mind backstitching so i usually do it, but there have been times when it didn't seem to be needed and I just left it off, because it wasn't adding to the design. All in all, I think you have done a lovely job on this lady and her bird.
Like the guard also. Or is she or he stalking the bird?

What a lovely pair! Ithink it works like this, and it really depends on the effect you're after whether you add anything more

lol, he was laying behind me and then he wouldn't move for the picture so I just took it with him laying there, I think he was more guarding his spot and he didn't want it taken over by the peacock lady.
I backstitched the actual feathers like it said with the kreinik color it called for, and think it looked ok without the extra green back stitching sporatically around the feathers, I just wanted opinions from other stitchers
