I like to blend the metallics so there is just a little bit of sparkle. The fairys in my afghan often call for 2 metalics and depending on what it is I do 1 metallic and one regular thread. I think that gives it a little bit of sparkle, but I've mostly used the gold and silver which are a bit harsher than that beautiful light blue you have which seems like it would make a lovely snowflake. If it seems a bit too harsh then I would blend it with either the white metalic or a pale blue thread. I find that the sparkle still comes through.

I did like how soft the blue is and although glittery it's not too much. I might try blending it with the white, perhaps even going 1 and 1 instead of 3 strands for the snowflakes only. If it's not "thick" enough I could add a pale blue or regular white floss.

The picture doesn't really do justice to the blue, but it seemed very wintery to me.

I'm having a hard time getting the back stitching right on this fabric. No matter how careful I am with the tension once finished the lines never seem straight. I hope once washed and properly ironed it will look better.

Your backstitching looks fine to me, but you're right, a wash and iron should straighten everything out if it seems misaligned.

June bird is done! I'm caught up with the Bird SAL now. Going to start working on the Owl SAL (also from Oakhaven) and then make sure I get July Bird stitched up before the month ends, as it just came out.

Since I'm basically caught up with this SAL I started on the other SAL from Oakhaven, the Owl SAL that I'm gonna stitch for my husband's grandmother, who collects all sorts of owl related stuff. Pretty sure she doesn't have any owl cross stitches yet so I'm thinking she'll love this.

It's cute and really fun to stitch. I got January done and have made a start on February.

Am doing this on a mauve-ish colored 14 ct Aida, with 3 strands of floss for the cross stitch and 1 for back stitch.
