It worked
I bought this DMC storage box in May last year from Shelley at Sewing Cafe when she had an offer on for us stitchers here. I made a new cord for the wooden heart closure after Mabel had mentioned French Knitting.I dug out my french dolly, used a spare skein of DMC variegated floss which as it happens matches perfectly with the design I eventually chose..how lucky is that, as I made the cord in Autumn 2011!
I padded the design to make it stand out a bit and got rid of the perspex lid which was scratched.
I am a very happy stitcher

That looks gorgeous
Hope the eyes are behaving themselves. I've got floaters too. Occasionally they seem to join up and I end up swatting imaginary insects flying past

This is french knitting Emma
http://www.readicut.co.uk/French-Knitti ... -PRC13308/ it is easier to illustrate than explain

it's rather addictive once you start and it grows and grows. It would make a great trim to finish off stitching projects instead of using ribbon or ric-rac

I know exactly what you mean mags.

Oh My. When I was in 3rd grade, we had to keep these in our desks and if you finished your work early then you had to work on these. Then when they got long enough you ended them somehow and sewed them together to make place mats and things like that. The girls didn't used to mind, but the boys hated it. My teacher also used it as a form of punishment if the class didn't obey and would keep us in at recess making us sit quietly and knit. The shame of it is, that all she did was connect this craft with punishment for generations of 3rd graders. She was a strange lady anyway. I never heard it called French knitting before. It really is a easy, useful craft with lots of other ways to use it.

Beautiful finish with the box!! I wondered if that's what you were planning, it just seemed "box-sized".
@Carole: How horrible! Not that you had to craft, that your teacher associated it with punishment.
