Hi everyone - thank you for all your lovely comments! I started Serengeti tonight, yay!

No pic yet, it's purple stitching on black and a bit hard to see. I'll try to take one in the morning and see how it turns out in the daylight... Feels so good to be stitching with silks again!

Can't wait to see it. Purple on black might be hard to photograph, but I'll bet it looks fantastic.
Amanda, not surprised that you are sorting silks already. That way you are ready to start as soon as you get the chart.

I totally agree!! Amanda, I did the same thing for Sleeping Beauty--it's why I asked you to send me the list of floss/bead numbers for her. All were ready and waiting for the magazine's arrival
Dana, I can't wait to see your first pictures

Amanda, I actually thought of you the minute I started stitching on it. The first thread I selected to use is called Purple Night Sky by Gloriana and it is scrumptious! And it does look fab on the black fabric!

That thread is one of my faves - it will never be subbed in anything - it's in Martina's raffle prize piece too!

Ok, here's a really terrible pic... The fabric is very black, so imagine the purple being the same darker intensity... I tried flash, no flash and just can't get a good one.

I can see that this piece is going to be amazing on the black! Not that it isn't amazing on all other colors, it is a gorgeous one

Have you tried taking a photo of it in the sunlight? Usually that's the best lighting to use, and without a flash.
That purple is soooooo pretty!! Terrific start!!

I look forward to seeing progress pics.

Hahahahahaha..... Oh, sorry, fell off my chair there. I live in Oregon, sunshine this time of the year can be a hard thing to find. Of course, we just got done with a nice stretch of it, so probably won't see it again for awhile. Raining now... I think the pic I posted was without flash and in a window...

Congrats on your start! Can't wait to see more WIP photos.
BTW - Love your answer about sunshine! I grew up in Portland, so I get the joke.

Great to see you've made a start on it Dana.

. I'll be watching with avid interest as to whether to do mine on black or a more sandy colour. I'm leaning towards black

wonderful start. I'm so glad I was out shopping (Michael's actually which of course didn't have all that I needed) and couldn't respond first because I would have suggested sunlight too forgetting where you live. That thread is sooooo pretty. Is it variegated? I am going to enjoy watching your updates on this one.
