At the end of 29 April, I put Gryff away.
I had finished page 12 of the plan,


The progress is:

That's 7154 stitches in 58 days, or 123 per day.

The colours are just amazingly like the photo. I am really, really pleased with it.

Yes, it looks remarkably realistic. I am starting to notice that the dithering that looks harsh to me in a mock up (eg. top area of page 12) blends far better when stitched.

Have you decided yet which page to do next?

I think I'm going to do page 18 next, then on to page 5.
There is enough already in the picture to keep me interested, so I'll carry on with the original order.

I'll not be getting back to it until the start of June, as I'm back on Luis Royo's Luz. On that one I have started on the figure's face (leaving a page of background incomplete) because there was absolutely nothing to hold my interest in the picture.

Thank you all for your comments. I must admit that in a way, I have mixed feelings about this picture.
We adored Gryff, and want to remember him as he was, but it's also a reminder that he never had a chance to grow up. He died just before his third birthday, and would have been a happy bouncy 7 year-old now. We would have loved to see him with his full size Maine Coon ruff, massive paws and hefty build.
Our little 'Ozzie' will never get to Gryff's size even though he is a Maine Coon, this is because he was the little scraggy runt of the litter and was only a tiny handful when we got him. Ozzie is our biggest cat by quite a margin, but will never be as big as Gryff would have been. Our 'large' Norwegian Forest Cat (Fluffy) seems to be a middle sized cat in comparison.

As I say, slightly tinged with sadness.

This is a lovely tribute. I had one of those special ones die young. It's been 18 years, and I still feel that twinge of sadness.

After 19 further days work on Gryff, I have finished page 18 of the plan and have started page 5 of the plan.

I suppose I've managed around 2500 stitches so far this month, and am about a third of the way through page 5.

It is really surprising how dark snow can seem...

Gryff's 'Cat Fancy' official colour was 'Red Tabby', but he really wasn't that strongly tabbied. His identical brother (Huffelpuff) won a few awards when his owners showed him. A sweet youngster with much promise. Nicely balanced head and type with large, high set ears with super furnishings. High cheek bones and very good length to breadth balance. Expressive large eyes slightly obliquely set. Uniform width nose with slight concave curve in profile. I loved the strength of his muzzle and chin. In super condition and so well shown. A real sweetie.

Was a pretty good description of Gryff too, though we didn't show him - we knew how fantastic he was without any else needing to tell us.
